I need a vacation. I haven't had anything even remotely like one since 2015, and since then, I've lost my wife, rebuilt my business from scratch and I've been putting in 12 to 16 hours a day for the past two years doing that.
Here I have this ST1300 that's just been used as a grocery getter since I got it.
That changes in June. Portland Oregon to Long Beach Ca, to Houston Tx, to Tampa Fl. to Raleigh NC, NYC, Silver Spring Md. up to Canada and back west to Portland Or.
Serenity gets a new back shoe next week. I'm shopping for a decent trailer for her. With or without, I'm headed to points east. six thousand eight hundred miles. Just to see what I can see.
I have a feeling my ass is never gonna forgive me...

If I could give some advice: make that route flexible. You never know what you might see along the way that piques your interest and encourages a detour. The best trip I've ever taken was about that length and didn't have any fixed points along the way. I went through 17 western states in that sojourn. I hope that find what you need to find and encounter the peace in solitude that comes from long days in the saddle. Keep us posted.

Just read the post and was excited, then sad for you. How awful and I have no words. Heart and hugs to you all. But I also hope your trip is merely delayed. You need to have something to look forward to as well. Take care my friend.

I like big trips. My wife and I did 5800 miles and 35 days last summer. 8 of those days were non riding days, we spent time at rallies. BMW and Moto Guzzi annuals. Two bikes with camping gear. It was a 50/50 trip spilt between motels and camping. My wife likes to have reservations so the trip was kind of rigid on daily travel, 300 to 350 a day. We did a border to border trip, it was great fun. Have fun and enjoy the time.

As far as the butt is concerned. It only hurts after day 3 and is numb the rest of the time. :)

39 years ago this month, my late wife and I loaded up a 1985 Honda 450 Nighthawk and took off on our honeymoon. She had made heavy duty nylon cordura saddlebags and a hard trunk for the trip. Sleeping bags on top of the saddlebags, and rain gear on top of those. She was basically sitting in an easy chair.
3,400 miles in two weeks. She fell asleep somewhere south of Salem Oregon; I could hear he snoring over the intercom.
We went on many trips in other vehicles after that one; including our 39 foot class A RV, but she always said our honeymoon was the best trip she'd ever been on.
She was a natural two up rider.
The guy that left me my current bike in his will, did so with the hopes that Marti and I would be able to recreate our honeymoon trip; but the cancer won...
