Opinions on Corbin Canyon Dual Sport

Calwest

Hi Guys,

I have combed over the site here for seating options and I haven't seen much on the Corbin Canyon seat. Does anyone have one on their ST? If so what do you think? I'm
6' and about 190lbs, 32" inseam. Problem is I have tight hip flexor's from a past injury and though I continue to stretch them the stock seating position creates alot of pain and stress. My back is fine and knees are fine, in fact the seat is most comfortable on the low postion for me. I'm looking for a narrow seat. FYI I have MCL Gen 3 riser and peg lowering brackets on the way to try that out. I'm determined to get the ergos correct for some distance rides.

Thanks

I have a Corbin Dual Canyon. It is a wider seat than stock with good support. It is recommended by Corbin that it is fitted in the lowest position, (although I use mine in the middle position). It is a firm seat that I find more comfortable than the stock seat and it is closer to horizontal so none of the slicing forward that can affect stock users.

It's difficult to recommend, as some users prefer a softer seat and some prefer a firmer seat, everyone is different. If you can find someone who will let you try for size, then you will have a better idea. By the way, I'm 6'2", with a 33" and I'm, about 180lbs

I'm 6'0" 175# and use my Corbin in the middle position. It is a very firm seat that I enjoy for the most part. I'm fine with the stock for about 200 miles. I can ride the Corbin over 1000 miles.

On trips from South Florida to the Smokies, about 750-800 miles, I'm fine with the Corbin for the ride up, and while there, but my @$$ is killing me on the way home and I need some kind of pad to make it bearable. It's just too hard.

I guess it depends how much cushioning your body provides, and how far you plan to ride with it.

Corbin close heated model here. Works for my winter commute. Wouldn't want to do more than a tank full on it though. It's a cinder block.
oem seat with a spence mod for distance.

I also have a Canyon Dual that I purchased from a fellow ST-Owners forum member. The seat is wider than stock so, based on your post, I'd bet this seat wouldn't work for you. If you wanna make a road trip to Oregon, you're welcome to give mine a try!

Sounds like I there may be better alternatives out there! I would be OK with the firmness I think but that would not be my first choice. Maybe a Sargent is in the future here. I'm not doing 750 Mile days but 4-500 is not out of the question.

Thanks

My Corbin is fine for 750 miles. Just not for several days in a row. Probably Spencer mod (cheapest), or Sargent would be best.

Like you I also have tender hips , from years of MX and off road riding with a few crashes in the process ! I,m 5-11 and also 32" inseam and I run a Sargent seat on the low setting and can stand flat footed at stops, and a huge inprovement in comfort over the stock torture rack ! I would have no problem recomending it ! great lookiing seat also !

Corbin Canyon dual here. I'll agree its like a brick. The worse part, and my wife and I both find this, is the poor design with welting sticking up at the seams. That welting just drives itself into the rear. If the seat was softer it would be cushioned, but I would compare this to sitting on pencils on a picnic table bench. I'll live with it until i can get a Russell.

Funny thing is, I've had Corbins before, but never had this problem on other bikes.

I actually have a Corbin on order, arriving Monday says FedEx, though not the Canyon Dual Sport. I went with the front saddle, no smuggler. Had them do it with no stitching and no welts, I've had stitching before and it lets water in, and the welts, they're just for show and the first thing to wear out. This will be my 3rd Corbin on as many bikes, I love the firmness of the seat, on my other bikes I could ride forever with the Corbins. And I like the leather top. Will post my thoughts after using it for awhile.

My opinion, softer isn't better, unless it's toilet paper. A cushy seat can create pressure points, but conventional wisdom makes it sound comfortable. To each his/her own. Corbins are either love'm or hate'm, I love'm.

I just sold my Corbin seat to another forum member because it just didn't work for me. I am 6' 3", 195 lbs. and 34" or 35" inseam. I found the seat very hard and slippery, my wife also commented about the slippery part as she always slid forward when I braked (even on just moderate braking). The Corbin is wider than stock and I could only get it in the lowest seating position... the Corbin website says it only fits in the lowest position. The best thing to do it try one if yuo can fins someone with one on an ST, once you try one you'll likely be able to decide in a very short time if it will work for you.

This will sound crazy to some, but the stock seat is actually pretty good for me. I did the Spencer mod and it's now even better. I fully recommend the Spencer LD mod and his service is fantastic too!

You will find that the Corbin Dual Canyon seat will force your seating posiition more forward than the stock position. If you are tall, this could be a problem. The Corbin single front seat will allow you to sit farther rearward, which would be more confortable for a taller person. The contour towards the rear of the single seat is flatter and more gradual than the dual. For me it allows different seat positions on long trips.
