I had the code 26 (with no degraded performance), replaced the knock sensor, wiring is good - So, any ideas why the PGM (ECU?) now still throws the code _ AND, after running a short time loses power?

Prior to replacement the bike ran great.

I bet your ST is a 2007 or older, right?

Unfortunately, the problem is almost certainly the ECM itself. It is an unrepairable defect that affects pre-2008 models. If you find no other defect, the fix is to replace the expensive ECM.

As did my '03, and I bit the bullet and bought a new ECU in April, no problems since.

If you wish to send an ST1300 ECM for repair, find out exactly what they will do to it first.

There is another company called Gen-Tune who claimed that they could repair the ST1300 ECM code 25/26 error. In the end, it seemed like what they were doing is they disabled the ECM's ability to illuminate the FI light when a code 25/26 was triggered. That is not repairing the problem, but rather hiding it. This can be harmful if genuine persistent pre-ignition is happening and not being controlled.

Gen-Tune was asked about this, and they never clarified whether they fix or mask the problem as far as I can recall. If someone knows that they can repair it, this would be a good resource for ST owners. If it is masking that is being done, a piece of tape over the FI light is much more cost effective. Buyer beware.

So yes, this an older model, an ‘03.

Josh - where did you get the part?

Perhaps I am not searching for the right part, what is the part number/name I should be looking for?

Thank you Andrew.

Now, does anyone know where I can find this part? It is out of production.
Check post #22 in the below thread for possible interchangability.
I take no responsibility for the information- confirm before purchase.
