Just a quick pointer so somebody doesn't make the dumb mistake I did. Installed a brand new pinlock shield in Neotec helmet at the beginning of last summer. By the fall I noticed it was rattling on the studs and was no where close to sealing. I thought maybe it had dried out because of the extreme heat I rode in.
Ordered a new one and accidentally read the directions...the dang pins in the visor are not concentric. :doh1:Used a pair of pliers and turned them both 180 degrees and the old one snugged right up...RRRrrr...spent 100 bucks on new visor and pinlock...at least I have a spare now I guess.

Quick question.. do ya leave the pinlock on year round? Guessing you do with the extreme heat part.

With the temperature getting up above fog inducing range I was considering taking mine off till fall.
Anyone?

PS Tiny, ya accidentally read the directions? :crackup DOH!!

I discovered the pin shape when I first installed the pinlock on my old helmet. I believe some cursing was involved to the tune of "what the #%~* is so great about this &@$!?*? shield?!? It doesn't even >}??}|?!* work!!" Then I read the directions.... DAMHIK!

I leave mine in all the time. I only really notice it at night (when your technically not supposed to use it) and its great if there is a pop up rain shower.

Obviously I leave it in year round...I ride with it up most of the time...just use internal sun shield. Night is is usually cool enough to need it...and I'm to lazy to keep removing it:)

i know the feeling! Been looking for a yellow one for night riding. Took me months to finally get thinner cheek pads...so hopefully Shoei will start kicking these out soon!

I don't think so. According to them they think it's a liability in case someone flips down the inner shield also. Lat time I contacted them they had no plans to make a tinted shield or pinlock. Maybe if enough people complain...

Will send in a complaint then! I hate when companies try to protect everybody from themselves. This was one of the reasons I bought this helmet was the quick transition from a day to a night shield...just put a frigin warning on the box and give us a great product!

I saw this thread and was about to save you some dough by pointing out that you can snug them up...oh, well. (Good to have a spare?)

I'll be sending them another e-mail also.

Well I sent another email and got this reply. Apparently enough people complained. Of course Wii knows how long it will be....

I'm going to send another email and ask about a tinted pinlock.

We will have a tinted shield out soon just no ETA at the moment.

I tend to ride with the visor up much of the time. Getting a helmet large enough for my head is problematic - I have a choice of one - the Shoei XR1000. Even so, my face is quite close to the front, and even with a pinlock insert it will mist up after 15 minutes or so.

However, in rain, riding with visor up is an issue. If I forget to drop it down at the first sign of rain, I am stuffed. Water gets between the visor and the pinlock screen. It is sealed OK for normal use, but with airflow catching the inside of the visor, I guess it lifts slightly to allow water to seep in.

I always carry a spare visor for such eventualities, both have pinlocks and I have one clear and one tinted. I wouldn't want a tinted pinlock - the visor has enough tint and the pinlock needs to be crystal clear to avoid optical interference between the two layers.

I agree. You wouldn't want a tinted pinlock on a tinted shield but there aren't any tinted shields available for the Neotec, or tinted pinlock inserts.
