Local rumour has it the tanker was somehow involved with highway works dump truck that may have been stopped on the shoulder or traffic lane, without warning lights / flashers activated. If this is the case or not, remains to be revealed by the RCMP or the parties involved. One the positive side, the driver, who was trapped in the cab, was successfully extricated by the fire dept, and suffered only minor injuries.

Well hopefully it gets resolved and the RCMP are transparent in thier report update. If it's like Onrario they don't report the cause which I think is wrong. The other driving public needs to be aware of the possible lack of professionalism of the truck drivers these days. Otherwise there is going to be more carnage and i/we don't want to be part of it.
 
Just an update to that accident on Wednesday. Remediation is still ongoing Sunday. The Westbound route has reopened 1 of 2 lanes. Both Eastbound lanes, where the accident happened, remain closed. Traffic snarl is a real thing as a result, pushing all traffic including large trucks & trailers, to secondary routes & local roads. Spring weight restrictions, that are now in effect, are also hampering larger vehicles.

RE: Wednesday's crash. For anyone interested.

So, no "official" word yet on fault, but there's a rear facing dash cam video that's been released showing the accident.

The fuel carrying transport hit the back of a highway dump truck with a safety crash crumple trailer. It's unclear if the dump truck had warning lights on, if it was stopped or moving. The transport swerved at the last minute, but clipped the trailer, lost control and toppled.

The two Eastbound lanes continue to remain closed as of today, Monday.

Flogging a dead horse again here with updates...

-One Eastbound lane should open today. (fingers crossed)

-The transport truck & parent company has been found liable for the accident & ongoing clean up.

-Fuel has now reached reached a tributary of the Hammond River and a nearby wetland. Dams and booms have been deployed to help contain it. Sadly, this river is a spawning ground for the endangered Atlantic salmon and short nose sturgeon, along with various other sport fish.
