Simple question, but a complex reason for asking it, which I won't go into.

If you have a genuine Zumo 595, can you tell me if it allows the screen orientation to be changed from Landscape to Portrait please ?

The Garmin Website says it has a dual orientation display, but the feature is not mentioned in the Display Settings section of the 595 manual (which is where the feature is described in the 590 manual).

Many thanks if you can help.

From what I read, dual orientation is available only on the 595LM. In not sure if that's your issue. Otherwise, it should be in display settings like you mentioned.

I have a Zumo 595LM. The menu goes Settings > Display > Orientation > Portrait || Landscape.

from what I read, dual orientation is available only on the 595LM.

@Shawn K appears to be correct: according to an official Garmin Zumo 595 online reference, the non-LM version does not appear to offer the orientation option. (NOTE: there doesn't seem to be a separate reference for the 595LM.)

I always thought, based on statements made by many, that the "only" difference between the 595 and 595LM was the addition of the lifetime map updates. Evidently not.

Just for the record, there is a Zumo Specific forum. Its a re-lauanch of the old Zumo Forum and based in the UK. Lots of good information there.

The "LM" in the model designation stands for Lifetime Maps included. I'm not even sure they sell it without that. If you found one not designated as such, it would still have the same hardware and software configuration.

You live in the United States, the OP lives in the United Kingdom.

Garmin themselves state that dual orientation is available only on the LM model.

Garmin's UK site only shows one model of the 595 - the 595LM. So that's at least the current situation. I suppose it's possible that there are older models out there without this feature.

Due to my accident causing some damage to my Zumo 660, it looks like I might get enough out of it towards the purchase of a 595LM. If I do, I'm also looking at the TMPS.

Anyone using the TMPS function with theirs?

F.Y.I. The Garmin TPMS does not include temperature monitoring in case that matters to you.

From Michael @CYYJ when I asked the same question;

Hi Andrew:

I am very happy with the Garmin TPMS and recommend it without hesitation. The system is very accurate and very reliable. You can program in both your target setting and what differential you want to be warned at.

If you get the Garmin sensors, look at the battery specification and then to to Amazon or similar and order half a dozen spare batteries. It is an uncommon size, and depending on how much you ride, you might consume a battery once every 6 months (per wheel).

Michael

A battery once every 6mo seems like a lot- not that it really matters in the Grand Scheme. What size batteries do they use?

With me, I only put on 28,000 miles last year, I guess it does depend on how fast they get used up...

I have no idea on either count but I am sure Michael will be by soon enough to answer both questions.

Hi All:

The Garmin TPMS sensor uses a BR 1225 battery. Here is a link to the Garmin publication with the battery specification: Garmin TPMS Instructions.

I have learned to replace the batteries every spring, at the start of riding season. Those fortunate ones who live in an area where it is possible to ride 12 months of the year might need to replace the batteries twice a year.

Thank you for that info...now to see what they give me and what it will cost me to get one with the TMPS! :thumb:

The prices I've seen are mostly in the range of $160 more for the TPMS version than the regular LM version. GPScity.com seems to have the best prices currently.
