I want to put a radio on my 06 ST1300. Has anyone done this and where did you locate it?

EDIT: I have a Cardo helmet system and would like the sound coming through there. I would like bluetooth. Would like AM- FM, also to be able to use a thumb drive or SD card if possible.

Where do you want the sound to come from, speakers or your helmet?

Do you only want AM and FM, or Bluetooth or a thumb drive, etc?

And where in VA are you?

The Packtalk Edge incorporates an FM radio. You can also play music via bluetooth from your phone to the Edge. AM radio I think is not available unless you stream it from an app on your phone. Sena also includes an FM radio. I did not see AM listed in a quick (very quick) look on their website. Sena and Cardo have many similar features.

That said, I believe one of the quartet harnesses connectors was for a Honda brand radio. I've never seen one up for sale here but if Honda sold it as an accessory, no doubt one can be found somewhere.

If you don't go the helmet audio route with Cardo or Sena, I've seen marine radios in the left locking pocket of the fairing and speakers in the dash spots. The OEM speakers and speaker boxes are hard to find but there's a thread here somewhere where someone used marine speakers and plastic electrical boxes to mount the speakers behind the dash grills.

Also see these threads / videos for ideas:

Sorry, I should have specified that. I just had the Cardo system installed in my helmet, so I would like a bluetooth as well as a thumb drive or SD card. AM-FM would be nice, but not necessary.

I am located in the Chesapeake area...

I do have the Cardo system in my helmet. But wouldn't the radio over heat being in the lockable pocket? I know on the right side, where I keep my wallet when riding, it gets extremely hot and I would be worried that it would over heat...

Nice job on the install. What did you use for the bezel so it was countersunk? Not to segue from the ST1300, but I was looking at the round face marine radios too, but they were too large to fit into those spaces. The filler plates I made only take a 2" diameter face whereas most radios are 4" and I don't like cutting the plastics if I can help it.

I like my Sena, because it stays on my main helmet and I don't fuss with multiple radios or moving one from bike to bike.

Streaming radio (iHeart or other streaming app) also does not have the static as you ride away from the broadcast signal.

I never use the Sena 50s in "radio / FM" mode, just iHeart or Amazon music. If I had need for an SD card, I could run that from an older phone or from my Zumo XT.

We now return you to your scheduled bike radio thread.

Second the Sena. And whatever you do PLEASE don't install a sound system that other drivers can hear. Harley riders music choices are as bad as the sound of their pipes.

I agree with only the driver can hear. If you need to turn up the radio so you can hear it, maybe the motorcycle is too loud. Put a set of ear buds in, nobody else needs to hear it. This also goes for vehicles that play their music loud. Nobody else wants to hear your music, they have music of their own that they want to listen to...

Ah yes, I bought all sorts of drill based hole cutters  None of which worked, but did try to rip my hands off.... In the end I resorted to using a stanley knife, slowly cutting away at the plastic until the radio rear would fit  The BOSS radio went into a 3" (76mm) hole.
