Rain Gear over mesh

If anyone were to look at my spare room it has a closet filled with my failed results in the search for the perfect riding gear. I probably should sell some but I keep most as a reminder to my bullhead nature. I would venture a guess and say there is probably 3-4k worth of "stuff" I have tried. Some only once or twice used before being hung in the closet. The last time I was wet was a ride back from Vicksburg 2 years ago this May. Having done the road waltz too many times to count, and just about every other dance in the quest for the perfect gear I broke down. Just south of Hotlanta, unable to see the road I pulled into a truckstop and called my riding partner. He has become a dealer in just about anything. Conversation very short. "Marc, order me a Roadcrafter, red with black. I will pick it up this weekend"

It has now been 2 full seasons. If I am 50 miles from destination I wear kneedraggers and a moto GP jacket. Anything more, it is the Roadcrafter. Great venting and short of forgetting to close a vent perfectly dry. From 17-100 the only difference is what is or isn't underneath. I will usually have a pair of nylon 2 piece pants with a LD shirt underneath. At a stop, if I choose, 10 seconds and I am walking around and short of the boots no-one would know I arrived on a motorcycle. I can get into it in about the same time it takes to put on a jacket. On long, hot days a cool vest is used but that is rarely needed.

Bottom line, for me was like the fram slogan: You can pay me now or pay me later. I tried to be cheap, didn't want to spend the money. I spent years fighting the dance, complaining. I know when you are stopped or going slow 100 is hot. No matter what you wear. Now I don't bother watching the radar and wondering if it is going to rain. If it does I just keep going and remember when I used to be those riders I see under the overpass. The only gear that would peak my interest is the suit my buddy got for his Bday last year. The Transit 2 piece suit. He loves it and he has been just as dry as me. I probably will invest in it just because.... But until that day, I can't find any complaint about the Roadcrafter.

Probably the best advice I have had. It is so tough for me to spring for the top quality/most expensive option out there in the beginning...but eventually, after I've tried all the junk, I will get there. In the meantime, it ends up costing me twice what it would have for the exact reason you give here. Plus my closet is full of stuff I can't/won't use anymore.

One suggestion on pants; full zippered sides with overlapping velcro closures and heal straps on the legs to fit under your boots. It doesn't do you any good to have something that you destroy getting on or off and blows up to your knees while riding. I got a pair I've had for over seven years and has seen plenty of wet weather. Before getting these I tore up many pairs just getting them on and off and filled my boots

Well, I wear the HD rain suit. It is a two piece but is very nicely constructed. It does have the HD branding on the back and all but oh well. They do not know if I have a Harley at home as a second bike :rofl1:

One trick that a Harley chick showed me to put my pants on quick without taking the boots off is putting on two plastic bags over the boots that way the rubber of the boot does not stick to the inside of the rain pants. It works great. It takes longer getting the rain gear out of the bike and the carrying pouch than to put it on.

From the look of the weather, I may be wearing the rain suit this coming Monday :shrug1:

I have to agree with these last two posts...I am convinced that I would have eventually torn several of these pants apart putting them on and taking them off. The combination of heavy rubber soled boots, the sticky rubberized pant lining and being in a hurry to cover up on a wet/humid day just sounds like a disaster to me. I will not buy rain pants that do not have full zippered legs.

At least not yet....
