The main problem is that the ER-6i buds isolate a bit too much external noise. Couple that with trying to hear someone talk over the Zumo, iPod, alternator noise...
The microphone would work for sure, and the mute switch would help too. I'm also in a bind over the ER-6i buds: I love the way they sound, and I love that they isolate so much noise, but sometimes I feel like I should have a bit more noise under the helmet to contend with, for safety's sake (and conversation's sake, too).
What's good about the addition of the mute switch or the Shure mic is that I can go from "Highway" mode to "stop and talk" mode in the flip of a switch.
