im trying to get the rear wheel off and am having difficulty with the 8mm end cap on the axle. Is it threaded backwards or did the dealer put it on too tight. Just want to be sure before I start breaking tools or parts.
What bolt? No "locking" bolt to keep REAR axle from turning. Locking ring, part of large nut.I think he's referring to the little bolt that keeps the axle from spinning....8 mm sounds about right..........ff
My bad, can't remember sh!t....my FJR has that little bolt to lock the axle........thanks for the correction.......ffWhat bolt? No "locking" bolt to keep REAR axle from turning. Locking ring, part of large nut.

Joe - I had to scroll up to make sure it was REAR. Front has the pinch bolts.has that little bolt to lock the axle.
My 03 doesn't have an "end cap". The rear axle has a flat, sort of rounded head with an 8mm hex (allen) recess in it. That's on the right side. The axle threads are on the left side. Put an 8mm hex wrench in the recess on the right to keep the axle from spinning, then use a 27mm socket on the axle nut on the left side to loosen the axle nut.im trying to get the rear wheel off and am having difficulty with the 8mm end cap on the axle. The only one I know of is on the shifter linkage.I haven't yet come across a left handed thread on my ST1300.
