@ST1 Sorry - I've been away from this for a while.
In the 4 pictures above (march 6) - the second photo shows you measuring the gap correctly. Between the brake disk and the slot in the caliper bracket.
The thrid photo shows you measuring the gap between the brake disk and the brake pad backing plate - which is only relevant if you are checking the pad thickness. That should 1mm at least. For new pads - which later photos show - that will be around 4-5mm. (can't remember how thick new pads are).
But from those photos I spotted the the calipers and the pad springs are not from a 2008 bike. So the second point - which I should have spotted. In your first post you say that your bike is a 2008 ST1300 A6.
That could lead to confusion. Make sure that when you buy pads that you buy them for an A6 machine, not for a 2008 machine. The front brake system changed for the 2008 model onwards - yours is a 2006 model (A6). The 2008 (A8) pads are almost impossible to fit in 2006 calipers, but I reckon that someone with enough determination might well manage it. That really would cause your brakes to bind and lock up.
This is normal - if the model doesn't have any changes to the spec, it can come off the production line in late 2007 and still be called an A6. A6 refers to the model, not the year of manufacture.
Mine for example was an A9 model. It came off the production line in mid September 2013.
For the 2008 model the front pads are 06455 MCS R01 or R02
For the 2006 and earlier models the front pads are 06455 MCS G01 or G02
Check which version you ordered and which were supplied - I'm sure that you would have said if they were a tight fit, and this post is completely useless. But I just noticed it and thought it better to say something than not.
