ReBuilding Damaged 07 ST1300

Looks like a deal to me. Best part was they said it tracks straight and true on the highway.

Besides looking like all the plastic needs replaced, I suspect the front bolt on sub frame will also.

I'm still amazed insurance totaled it. I once saw a pick up get a new frame because insurance wouldn't total it. That's like doing a frame up restore.

Let us know how it's coming along.

In August of 2007 my son was hit from behind from a car that was hit by a bus. My son was in my 2004 Tacoma 4dr pickup. It bent the frame. They replaced the frame with a brand new one. It was about $9,000 for that little job.

In April of 2008, I was knocked off my bike at about 25 mph. First estimate on the bike was around $7,500. After they paid that to have things fixed, they put out two supplementals for another $1,200. Also they put out $1,000 for my gear. If they would have added everything up the first time they would have totalled it.

So you just never know... and from what I see from that bike in the pictures (I saw the rest of the pictures on ebay) I would say that trying to replace all of that plastic and front end damage is not going to be cheap. :22yikes:

A good plastic welder might help....along with some paint.

Hey everyone.
Wanted to update you all on my rebuild project. It is finished (actually was done on Mar 11th, but took three weeks to get it street legal). Had the NJ State inspection yesterday, and it passed with flying colors. Here is the stuff I did (see note below).

Good for you Dan! :clap2:

I think one mistake many make when they try to restore a bike like this is that they want to replace all the damaged parts with new instead of fixing them.

Right now I have most of the damaged parts from my accident a year ago and I figure if something happends and insurance isn't involved, I'll repair the stuff myself and save some bucks!

Enjoy your bike! :hat1:

:bow1: Glad to see that the rebuild was a success! :bow1:

Very nice. My rebuild this winter was all plastic and a DIY paint job but that;s on a 97. My hat's off to you for doing this big a job on a 07. Risk = reward and it looks like you were very successful making a big risk into a big reward.

So Total....how much did you spend? ~6000?

<D>

Total cost was $5000 for the bike and $1200 for the repair parts. Most prices are listed in the statement I had to provide for the NJ inspection (included in my post above). Biggest costs were a new windshield adjuster ($400 - motor, etc was OK but bracket was broken - could not buy a new bracket separately) and fork tubes (they were slightly bent, $242 for two tubes and $96 to have forks rebuilt).

I didnt include other costs (pickup in Alabama, NJ sales tax/registration fees).

Hey Man!! looks like its going to be a nice bike. I'd love a project like that. Listen googe SHSPowersports. i say google because aim not sure just how they are listed, but I know thats close. Those guys will have every thing you need, and at a good price I just ordered
tupperwear and frame parts for my bike where my wife knocked it over hard last week. The color was perfect. give them a shot. And send more picks as you repair for me to drool over. you lucky dog.:03biker::rolleyes::D

Two pictures are posted below. If u want to see all the photos of the finished product, send me your email and I will link you to Picasa photos.

A lot of folks on this website were very supportive, but one who helped a super amount was Larry Ramel of Missouri. Great technical advice, spent hours on the phone with me, and has done salvage rebuilds about 10-15 times already. Great guy and very knowledgeable.

Now will be doing the fun par, riding the bike. Had it on the highway yesterday at 95mph +/- an it ran straight as an arrow.
