Impossible I say! I was told that food prices (at least at the supermarket) would be reduced drastically. Still waiting.

I was hoping 'renewable' meant this would be some kind of organic fuel that reproduced in the tank over night. I guess not.
 
interesting concept, but as I'm reading it the only thing I can think of is how much of this fuel can actually be produced from "renewable feedstocks". Then the article mentioned that at the very end. But, I'm in favor of anything that's renewable, even in incremental amounts, if its technically and economically practical.

We already have that situation due to the mandatory addition of ethanol (E5, E10, soon E20...), mainly produced from palm oil, corn, soybean oil, rapeseed oil, wheat, triticale (as well as minor amounts from vegetable waste, wood, straw; but inefficient hence subsidized...)
And since (of course) farmers look to get the most buck per acre (while suffering under the knuckle and gagging contracts from the grocery chains), do we suddenly have to import expensive wheat to keep baking bread...
And it seems likely that the emissions caused by the import transportation + productions for the ethanol (like deforestation to maintain oil palm plantations/monocultures in Indonesia and Malaysia and ship the mesocarp over here on crude oil freighters) outweighs the alleged reductions of CO² emissions by that E5/10 crap...
Not to mention the extinction of rainforest wildlife and the impact on the native population... :cautious:

Don't forget that the addition of ethanol reduces mileage (specific energy of ethanol is approx. 60% of gasolione) so the added cost reduces efficiency.

Color me skeptical. The whole greenhouse gas emissions and climate scares have been shown to be "much ado about" nothing. The only thing they've done is to bankrupt Europe.

We used to think oil came from dinosaurs. But we don't seem to be running out of oil.

Somebody is hoping to make buku bucks out of this and I'll bet it isn't going to be any of us.
