Ride to Work Day 2026

The 35th annual Ride to Work Day will take place on June 9, 2026. Organized by the rider wear manufacturer Aerostich, Ride to Work Day encourages all riders, regardless of make or model, to ride their motorcycle or scooter to work to raise public, business, and government awareness of motorcycles as modes of transportation.

The nonprofit organization to support the event was formed in 2000, and it occurs annually on the second Tuesday in June. The event seeks to raise awareness of the benefits of more people using motorcycles as transportation instead of cars. According to Ride to Work, riders typically reach their destination 20% more quickly than car drives. They also use fewer resources per mile and take up less space on the road and in parking areas. As riders, we can attest that riding brings mental benefits as well.

Ride to Work Day seeks to demonstrate that motorcyclists are from all walks of life and that riding instead of driving can reduce traffic. On the Ride to Work website, the organization offers free resources, including letters to mayors and content for further reading about the benefits of motorcycles regarding lane splitting and filtering, parking, traffic, and more.

“People do not usually think about or fully appreciate the comparative benefits of riding for useful everyday transportation,” said Andy Goldfine, an event organizer, “and also tend to minimize the range of negatives resulting from a near-universal dependence on autos. Cars are wonderful vehicles, but the reasons to ride instead of drive go well beyond carbon footprints.”

To hear more from Andy Goldfine about his opinion on the benefits of more awareness of motorcycling and other topics, check out Episode 14 of the Rider Magazine Insider Podcast.

Rider fully supports Ride to Work’s mission and encourages all riders to get on their bikes on June 9 and share their ride on social media with the hashtag #ridetowork.

I'm guessing $5 gas is going to turn the whole summer into Ride to Work Day. At this point, my motorcycle is pretty much paying for itself in MPG.

For me, it's a bit different. A few years back, I tried meditation to deal with stress issues. While it sounds like 'Woo,' it has verifiable neurophysiological benefits. What I learned is that it has nothing do with the breathing or whatever, it is focusing your attention on one thing and bringing it back to that thing when it wanders. This let's you quiet the part of your brain that is all over the place, angry about your co-worker or Microsoft (don't get me started) or whatever. That thing can be, and is for me, riding the motorcycle. I focus on what I need to be doing in the moment and shut down any other thoughts that try to interfere.

It's amazing how many annoyances just aren't if you don't dwell on them. I just wish I could learn to do it consistently OFF the motorcycle.

I suspect many experienced motorcyclists are using 'motorcycle meditation' without realizing it just out of pragmatism.

just having a hobby or some other activity after a hard day is all you need to keep your sanity.

Plus the added benefit of giving you an endorphin boost before and after work.
This was my favorite part of the work day even more then the end of work.

Inbound I took the freeway as time was more or less critical given the amount of morning traffic. After work, I road a different route with curves and trees but almost zero traffic. It was longer but more relaxing. There was traffic to get to it and traffic where it ended short of home. But that time in between was priceless.

This too.
