RIP Waterloo Jay - Jay Lalonde

I am sad to report our very good friend Jay has passed. Last Wednesday he was riding his BMW along a street in Elmira, Ontario, and collided at slow speed (15 km/hr) with a horse and buggy travelling in the opposite direction. While we don't have a lot of detail, the horse may have turned in front of him and we believe he was struck in the torso by one of the tug poles, causing a serious injury. The horse and 18 year old female driver were uninjured and damage to the motorycle was minimal. Jay was rushed to hospital but did not survive his injuries.

Jay was very well liked and respected by all who knew him, passionate about his motorcycles and family. He was always a very positive and entertaining personna to anyone around him. We will miss him dearly. RIP Jay.

That's really tragic. Having grown up in the KW area, I recall seeing the horse and buggies everywhere. My condolences to his family.

I was thinking of going to the memorial service, however Waterloo region is still in phase 2.
The following are the guidelines for the region.
Indoor Funerals

1. The lesser of 25 per cent capacity of the room* or the number that can be maintained with physical distancing of two meters to a maximum attendance of 75 people. The maximum capacity of the room must be posted to be easily visible.
   *25 per cent capacity is determined by taking the total square metres of the floor area accessible to the public, not including furniture or fixtures, dividing by 16 and rounding down to the nearest whole number. O.Reg.263/20 s.3(3)
2. Funerals are required to be staffed at a ratio of one (1) staff per 15 guests to a maximum of four (4) staff for 75.
3. Multiple visitations are permitted, but they must be scheduled in complete groups with cleaning/disinfecting between visitations. In the alternative, lining-up or cycling of guests is permitted only if the line is actively managed by a staff member to preserve two-metres physical distancing between guests (whether indoor or outdoor).
4. Guests must be logged to enable contact tracing. Records must be kept for 30 days.
5. There must be passive screening of guests, meaning have COVID signage at the entrance for guests to self-assess. (Here’s a link to the BAO’s screening sign, found on our COVID-19 web section.)

Wow. Had to read this thread title a couple times, thinking I was seeing things.
Always enjoyed the times I was around Jay, and will miss him a lot.

My thoughts RE: the visitation and funeral... I believe capacity is 30 people for the service. I expect the visitation will be a reception line kind of thing where most will file through in keeping with guidelines. I plan to go at noonish. I expect the actual service at 1:00 will be full, and I'd defer to family and those closest to him. Jay and his family hosted a great RTE at Crazy Canucks in St. Jacobs (845 Weber St.), so a handful of us will go there afterwards in tribute if you will. I may actually ride up as a type of tribute, still undecided, weather dependent, etc. No question Jay was awesome and always a great friend to me.
