Hi Gang/ Riders/ Owners

While riding I have had the experience that my ST1300's (2005 ABS) Speedometer suddenly drops to Zero and then a while later works again. Happened a few times now. Seems like soon at the beginning of a trip but that's not always the case. I have ridden over very rough terrain and no problem - it doesn't go off, then other times I am cursing along on a smooth road and it just suddenly dropped off. Also noted that the fuel and milage seems to also freeze up and the top line goes dead or dashes displayed...Wonder if there is a link? So I'm a little bamboozled. Mileage? Only 237,900kms. So I wonder what's going on... doesn't seem like a loose connection or it would definitively disconnected on the very bumpy road I road on. Maybe the sensor is dicky?

Thanks for the possible in put in advance.

Your speedo and other gauges are on the same fuse. I did a quicky piss poor wiring job on a trunk I put on right before a long ride and when the wiring failed in the trunk, it took the speedo with it. Any add-ons?

Pull out the sender and see if there is anything on the end of the pickup, I had a sensor go bad which did mess with the mileage for economy readings, it did exactly what you are describing. My wiring was fine and passed all the testing fine

I replaced the sensor with a cheap Chinese Amazon one. No good. Fluctuates, especially when accelerating or slowing. I now have a new Japanese sensor being shipped.
The old sensor would work after about 15 to 20 minutes of riding and warming up.

ST1100man, I have just had the same experience with the Chinese one from eBay... worked for ±20knms then only shows some kind of fluctuation when de-accelerating.
I've put the old one back for now as I'm waiting for a local guy that apparently has a complete motor that was replaced for some or other reason, and gave it away to a guy that sells parts.... yeah.
Long story...
If he hasn't got it then I will order from Honda and wait 6 -> 8 weeks for delivery as a high cost....
Mean time I am going to attempt the brake bleeding so that i can ride without my rear brake dragging...
Gotta go for a ride sooooon.... hehe.
