ST1100 Blinking VVME 35 watt lights

Wouldn't you know it? I find what I think is the perfect place for it and I bet you anything when I move it to test, all will be fine. You mentioned another 1100 has it mounted, I will have to read back and check with him as to where his is.
Thanks Dave.
Oh, I did not try to give it any throttle so I don't know about changes to the rate of blinking. It's going to be the coils. ;>)

Mark, you didn't mention if the rate of blinking changes with RPM. Does it? I am not 100% convinced but it is possible.

I sent an email to Tom Melnik from ST-Riders. He is the 1100 rider that I know has done this and asked where he mounted his.

Tom replied and said that he mounted his in the left storage bin to keep it out of the weather and such. I think once it is dialed in and if you seal the back you will be fine with it in a place more in the elements. Personally I would find a spot under the fairing. Maybe find a spot behind the headlight. It is fairly accessible they by pulling the windscreen and black bezel. Pretty well protected and should be far enough away from other issues like the coils.

Spoken like someone who has never dealt with the limited space an ABS provides. ;) What little there was is almost filled with HID components now. I think I could stuff it in there tho. I look forward to trying a spot farther away from the coils. I think I will bring some wire to try it at the farm while relaxing. I can make up some jumper wires so it should be plug and play in a new spot.
Thanks a million for your effort to see where Tom mounted his. That is very encouraging. It well be I am the only one to have mounted it where mine is.

I thought you were going under the headlights with the ballasts. The TDR isn't that big. I remember how it was a lot tighter than the 1300 or my 1100 but there should be room.

Did you ever say if it changes frequency with RPM?

I did go under with the ballasts but all the extra loom and the relay is just under the black garnish. I think I can still get the TDR up there but it may be easier to tuck it on the left side. We'll see when I get back.
I never did try any throttle so I can't say.

Did anybody get a solid response to correcting this issue Mark?

I was installing a Starcom1 the other night and got a very quick touch of two wires and since then I have had the blinking issue when idling, and sometimes when riding (I can see reflecting from a cage in front).

I think mine may be that I have fried the ballasts, but any input would be appreciated.

I have installed 55watt sets in my ST1300a, I read (don't know where) before I bought them that the 55 watt units are much more stable (no blinking), I put the ballasts up in the fairing. My Land Rover with 35 watt h4's blink a little. Audi with 55 Watt, no problem. I ordered all from mydepot.com. My 2 cents for what its worth.

My blinking has not been addressed yet. I was going to try moving the TRD away from the coils as they are right under where I have it. I only have the blinking when the TRD is used. If I use the switch and just turn the HIDs on after the bike is running, I have zero blinking. I don't think I had any issues where the wires got power that should not have. If you have a TRD, try taking it out of the equation.
