I have an ST1100 and ever since I bought it, I have had an issue with the choke. The problem is that the choke has very limited movement. If I move it from its current position either down or up the revs increase. My guess is that the choke cable has been removed at some point and refitted wrongly, does anyone know where the cable should be routed so that I can sort this out. Thanks

I would first remove the left inspection cover over valve cover. From there you can see where enricher cable housing hold down clamp is located. The hold down clamp screw had loosened allowing cable housing movement instead of cable movement, gradually causing same scenario in my bikes case. JAT, and quick easy check;).

If the previous owner had the carbs out, the boot clamps may not have been re-installed correctly. One boot clamp in particular, near the choke cable clamp, will interfere/limit the cable movement.

Correction: It is the choke linkage that binds on that boot clamp.

Make sure that the sub-cleaner tube that runs next to where the cable connects to the choke mechanism is routed properly. If it is routed incorrectly the choke will hang on it and not function properly and act as if it is stuck.

Now that I have the carbs back on here are a couple of pictures of correct and incorrect Sub-cleaner tube routing

Incorrect - Notice that the tube interferers with the choke cable

And correct - With the tube under the throttle cables the interference is no longer there.
