Yes, those perky little plastic covers you push aside when inserting the key...
Originally designed to keep dust and dirt out, will they be cause of trouble by crumbling apart (like as result of a WD40 attack or UV radiation...), clogging up the barrel, rendering lock & key useless.

I wonder if the fella is even on this forum... and when I should start to replace the little sliders on my rigs...

I don't recall ever seeing any "original lock cover sliders" on any ST1100, not sure what he's talking about. If dirt entry into the locks was a problem in the first place, my 25 year old saddlebags would have shown it by now, so seems like a solution looking for a problem.
