1789919514196.pngIt occurred to me that I still have various snippets of information that I have only half documented.

Now I no longer have an ST1300 - I thought I'd better do some colouring in and write up some stuff that I have found out before I forget about it.

Attached is a pdf. Download it, keep it. You won't need it until you need it, if you undestand what I mean. It is aimed at the ABS version of the ST1300 which has brake lines going all over the place.

Nice pretty coloured diagrams - shamelessly reproduced from the Honda 2003-2004 Parts Catalogue - edited an coloured in to show exactly which brake lines go where, what they connect to, where the connections are on the bike. Notes to explain what the various components do. There are 7 copied b/w diagrams - for purposes of education, which I believe to be allowed under copyright rules. As long as I credit Honda for the originals.

It has 13 landscape pages - the images on the right will give you an idea - each page has hyperlinks to other pages in the document - to make it easy to easy to follow the notes for a particular line. Included are photographs from my own bike and from a couple of parts from eBay posts.

@Mellow - You may or may not wish to allow this. Just delete it if it breaks USA or your own rules.

Um... Got it while the getting is good (even though my 1300 is non-ABS). (Deleting it would be like painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa.)

The non abs version uses the same lines, except for the lengths of pipework to / from the ABS. Instead, they join the same lines with short loops.

Eg - the front brake lever hose has a line to the headstock where a metal block provide a solid, hydraulic connection. The hose to the front calipers starts with a similar block, also bolted to the headstock.

The Abs version has pipes connecting these two blocks to the ABS unit. The non Abs version of the ST1300 simply has a short loop to connect these two blocks together. I’ve never looked at these joining pipes in other locations, but I can see why these solid block pipe joints are in the locations that they are. It makes ABS a relatively simple variation from non-abs.

Thanks John for the highly detailed information.
Very informed documentation on this very confusing system that fails when the SMC locks up in the applied position.
I’m glad I have ABS on all my ST 1300’s, but I never want to troubleshoot it if the ABS system fails to work.

Thanks John! As always, class act on the clarity and ease of following what otherwise can be difficult paths of travel. As these bikes get older, it's nice to have this information that no dealer will probably have, or use. Even though my 2010 isn't ABS, I haven't yet listed my 04 (which is) so there may still be some use to these and I can always pass them on to the buyer if they're interested. Appreciate the effort that goes into all of your instructions to help us be better maintainers of our rides.

Thanks for thinking of us, John!

Your efforts to share your knowledge to inform and educate us is greatly appreciated!!
