No, it's the alternator amperage that affects the R21. The 003 alternator doesn't provide enough power.

That is not how I interpret @aniwack's reply. He said the CPUs are not interchangeable, so the P cpu on @TallPaul's bike stays with that bike's wiring harness, but he can swap the engines.

The L01, R12, and R21 are not interchangeable.

Yes, and this is why @aniwack explaining the incompatibility with a "lack of alternator power" is difficult to follow. No doubt he has firsthand experience of the incompatibility, but how can it be explained by a lack of electrical power?

If the Police version really needed the additional 5 amps or so to run, it would mean there would be no reserve left for accessories.

A typical MC ECU uses somewhere between 1 to 5 amps.
