ST1300 -first 1000 miles -Handle Bar risers

eeny meeny miny mecks ...
pick a riser by its specs ...
question is is which to choose ...
if I choose wrong I'll be singing the blues ...

Are you headed to WeSToc?

I have a Gen 2 at home (probably the most popular), I can bring it out and you can try it on.

love to - but my work thing will be in the way. Beautiful country up there. Wife and I flew our plane up to Victoria BC a few years ago for a holiday - absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks bunch for the offer ...

I'm thinking the gen 2 will be the way to go ...

Just bit the bullet and ordered the Gen3 online from ThumperTalk. They had the best price I could find at $179. I'll report back when I get them installed and give you my feedback.

I just put the Helibar Gen3 on my bike and I love it. FYI- I didn't need to loosen or remove the clutch or brake hoses as the directions instructed. Just make sure you protect the tank because the edges of the bars can cut deep.

Also the bars put your hands in the wind so good gloves are advised.

I got my 2012 ST1300 new on 7/25/2014 and now have 1780 miles on it. I just put the Heli-bars on it and so far they are a huge improvement for me over the stock. I think the stock bars would be better if you were racing. The other note is they move your hands slightly out of the wind block provided by the mirrors but this would be true of any risers. So far I would say they improve low speed handling, reduce the pressure on my hands and let me sit more upright which is important for me because I have disc problems.

Installed my Gen3 last night - only took about an hour or so. Very nice quality in my opinion and close color match to the bars. I did not have to move the clutch hose either, but did leave the ziptie off of the throttle cables to allow enough slack for the bars while going lock to lock. Not sure where to hook up the power port to just yet - so I left that disconnected for now. Any suggestions?

Have not taken the bike out yet - but riding position feels great! No more leaning way forward for this old guy. Can't wait to take it out for a spin this weekend and try it out.

Motorcycle Larry will fix you up with risers and retractable Hi way pegs I have emailed and it's nice stuff.

I just got my 2010 st1300 the other day. I am 5.5 and 29 inseam I have to put a lot of my weight on the BARS will bar risers help at well it be worse. need to pull t.he bars back to me 2in well this help out

Like you, on my first ride I knew I had to have riders. I was able to sit straight up with no weight on hands.

will bar risers help at well it be worse
It shouldn't be worse and how much risers will help depends on your particular riding style and anatomy and what riser(s) you use.

I have the Helibars Tour Performance (Gen 3.2- the latest) riser and love it. I raises your grip 2" and back 2.5" and changes the angle of the bars to reduce strain on your wrists. A lot of us like this riser and I think a few here didn't.

Some risers raise the bars but have very minimal rearward movement. Not everything works for everybody but I tried the Helis before anything else and am really happy.

Yesterday I rode a 770 mile trip from Illinois to Stroudsburg PA in 11 hours of riding time plus 2 hours in breaks. The newly installed Gen 3 risers made a ton of difference. No neck aches and no pressure or fatigue in the wright palm or right wrist. This are definitely worth it. I bought mine on this site for 70 bucks.

Damn necro threads.... Spent 20mins reading posts, highlighting sections to quote & reply to, then realised the posts were 9years old! Lol.

Like others, I have the HeliBars Riser 3.2... I rode maybe 1000miles without and didn't like the pressure on my wrists. Fitted them & felt like a T-Rex for about 3 days.

10k miles later, I couldn't imagine the bike without them. My phone is usually inside a Ram AquaBox using the HeliBars Ram mount, and since the AquaBox has a capacitive touch cover on the front (that they don't advertise), I can punch buttons on my phone while riding.... Probably not advisable though...

Is there a difference between Gen 3 and Gen 3.2

Is there a difference between Gen 3 and Gen 3.2
Yes, .2

Other than that, I presume so, but don't know the exact details. I remember reading somewhere that the lift & rake (pull back) has changed over the years....

did
So far so good , I have done the first 1000 miles on my bike.
The engine is a gem and fuel efficient.
I replaced the standard windscreen with the largest CalSci screen, no more buffetting and an invisible hand pulling your head forwards , wonderful!!
You do not need to raise it too much and this gives you the better angle and wind protection for your hands. Took it up to 100MPH and still absolute comfort.
Another story is the seat, not good, it will be replaced by a Russel seat . I have one on my KLR and I love it since the miles are longer on a KLR
A power socket is a must on a bike like this so I added one inside the right pocket . The socket fits nicely inside the small niche on the left and the plugs stay dry this way
I am considering handlebar risers, is there much difference between the Helibar and MCL risers ? I have seen some old posts that they are more or less the same but Helibar touts contineous improvement so the 2010 riser plates may be different. MCL has a special going on the risers at this moment , but the higher priced Helibars seems to have more rise and pullback . Let me know if they are worth the extra money.
.
Hi ,
did you ever purchase a set of risers, I may have a good second hand set if your intrested , not sure on the make ?

regards
