I need to change my fuel pump.. Against my normal rules of conduct. I like to troubleshoot and investigate the exact issues I'm having before ordering parts. However, I'm in a hurry and I do believe the fuel pump is the culprit for the bike cutting out when hot.
Can someone tell me if this is the correct kit for all the parts I need?
I want the gasket for the top of the tank assy.. I'm not a silicone guy for gaskets.
I don't believe that fuel filter is correct or needed??

Amazonian Kit

Thanks

Hi Doug, IIRC, the OEM fuel filter was a strainer that surrounded the pump. From the Amazon picture, it looks like there is a foam wrapping to serve as the filter. If my old eyes are right, the you probably do not need the filter, but I'd throw it in the circuit anyway, against the possibility of rust or dirt getting thru the pump and heading toward the injectors.

In general, I am not a fan of Amazon, and if I needed a fuel pump I'd go with the Honda car one suggested in other threads. I think it cost around $60. There might even be a cross match for the gasket to a car's fuel tank.

Here we go again

However it does not answer my question of is the gasket shown in the amazon link the correct looking gasket for top of the tank?
Yes - that gasket looks to be correct. Do not use silicone.
May I suggest getting new crush washers (Part number below) for the fuel pressure line going into the top of the secondary tank and oh yeah - don't use the little rubber hose that comes with the quantum kit-- as there are reports that it is not the proper one for being submersed in fuel and will absorb fuel and swell the hose shut.
Just re-use your original hoses that are already on the pump ( that is what I did), or you can order new ones --
Part numbers --(HOSE B, PUMP 16712-MAT-D01) (HOSE A, PUMP 16711-MCS-G00)

Part number----WASHER, SEALING (12MM) X2 90428-PD6-003

Doug- how is the bike performing with gas mileage?
You should see a decrease in mileage as one of the first symptom's.
The the bike will cut out under acceleration.
Also under steady throttle (in advanced stages of failure) the bike will "Buck" and gasp for fuel then bog down to very low speed.

yes, yes, all of that.. I don't keep track of gas mileage but seems not good.. definitely cuts out under accel and steady throttle.. Idles good, sometimes.
I have the 12mm crush washers and hose. the correct hose to submerge in gasoline. thanks for that info.

Doug here are some pictures of the factory parts for comparison. I think the gasket and filter look right.
Tony Thanks for the pics. perfect. I'm at work and didn't get time to get into it yet since getting home late last night from down south. I milked it through the ride on the last day.
Looks like the soonest I can get the parts is next Wednesday. Ordered..

Doug,
My fuel pump is failing and the only way I can drive it is keep the gas tank full of fuel. In stop and go traffic, if I'm below 2 bars, it will start to act up and start to buck.
Hope that helps you until the parts arrive.

Thanks for putting up the great photo's,,, Tony. I bought the Quantum pump,,, but have not installed it yet. I bought the gasket from Honda,,, as it is a specialty item. It cost me about $20.cdn. Predictably,,, Honda Canada wants a ransom for the 4 simple crush washers,,, that will ultimately cost more than the gasket. Does anyone know if they are just common copper or aluminum sealing washers ?? I have not installed the new pump yet,,, because my 215,000km pump is still running okay,,, and I am not traveling far at the moment,,, and I am also waiting for a just purchased fuel pump pressure gauge to arrive. I will also source replacement submersible hoses,, in case I need to change those as well. cheers,,, CAt'

Hard to say what they are. You would think they are simple copper or aluminum washers, but because of the price @ $6.50 US plus shipping (part #17) , I wonder if they are teflon or carbon fiber? Too bad you couldn't wait until you removed the ones you have in there to see if you could tell what they were. Good luck...

Crush washers are simply soft aluminum or copper washers. You can get away using a plastic washer too (I've seen the latter on oil pan bolts on several cars). While I dislike Amazon, they ship quickly and have a large stock of just about everything, especially crush washers, though I would stay away from the steel ones listed in that link at the top of the page.

NO.

I just fast forward to the end of the video, to see if the rider was cursing. Seemed to be keeping his/her cool though !! CAt'

That rider was me! :rofl1:

And yes, I knew what was happening and I just wanted to get the bike home, without pushing it. Otherwise, I would have been :censored::censored::censored::censored:

I have the same video from my bike DVR recorder.. I watched it and you can definitely hear the bike cutting out...
