I put this video together while I had my bike torn apart. You have to do it blind and by feel, so this is nice to see what you’re actually doing. It’s an easy task once you know what you’re doing, but until then, it can be a struggle! Even the experienced bulb changers may appreciate this!

Though I fall in the latter category and have done many H4s and H7s in my bikes by feel, this would have made the learning curve much less steep! Seeing it done step by step is very helpful.

Good video but you forgot to show that you need to remove the two bottom tabs on the standard H4 bulb. I noticed that your bulbs had them removed.

Good point. His lower tabs were bent backwards like I liked to do.

Might just be my large meaty hands but it was still easier to take some of the plastics off to get at the bulbs.

If you are doing the LED upgrade it's almost a necessity to take them off to mount the ballasts.

If you are just replacing a regular bulb and you can get your hands in there, you may be able to do it with just a few scraped knuckles.

That was an excellent video. Can we create a sticky for it? But I do forget how to get to stickies.

@Larry Fine If I had a digital camera and a time machine I'd go back to 1993 and make one!

But seriously, the video that @Jambriwal shared saved me a lot of work because I see how the position of the fixed mount for the bail on the 1300 bulb socket wouldn't allow me to make the modification I made on my 1100's headlight shell to accept an H4 bulb with the more common P43t base rather than the PX43t 65-degree base that our STs in North America use.

IIRC that mount on the 1100 was positioned at the 9:00 location on the socket rather than 7:00 as I see on the 1300. I could be wrong, it was over 25 years ago when I last looked at it. :)

I'm disappointed, but I also see how the bent tab technique works and I can easily modify a P43t base on the road using the pliers in my tool kit.

Rehash of bending or removing tabs from standard H4/9003 bulbs in order to fit Honda ST1300 headlight.

It is easiest to access the headlight bulb from the front and underneath the ST1300. You are working by brail since you can not see what you are doing. The video shows what you need to do. The hardest part is getting the bail clip off. Up is unlock and down is lock. I have done it enough times I can swap them in two minutes. Still happy with and running the F2 H4 LED bulbs. I tuck the ballast up over the edge into the faring. Good job on the video!

@Benson004 - please tell us that this video is monetized.

First time I changed bulbs, it took me longer than it took you to strip your bike, record that video, upload it, and then me to watch it. :yr1:

The H4/9003s were good training for the H7s in the RT. The spring retainer has two ends to clip at 4 and 7 o’clock and the hinge is at the top so the bail falls down and blocks the hole in the reflector:confused:

Thank you so much for this.

I stumbled around reading endless text on how to do this...all of it reducing me to a cursing lunatic.

What fuggin tabs on the clips on the plug before turning the wire to the left if you're right handed and push if you not while lifting on the snoozle flugin with you index thumb and be sure to angle the tangle before pulling the tucksit and bending the jiggamthing?

A picture is worth a thousand words. A video is worth ten thousand.

I changed the left years ago. Now it's the right side's turn. This video makes it a 2 minute job as opposed to the previous one that was at least 30 minutes and 2 wrenches through the wall with taunts of damnation for every automotive and motorcycle design engineer who doesn't work on their own machines or have hands the size of Achmed the Dead Terrorist.

Simple, clear, great video. Thanx again.

Perhaps, converting to an Article would be appropriate, so it shows under Articles -> ST1300 ?
With all due respect...

NOOOO!

Plz see my previous comment. There are lots of descriptions all over the interweave describing and debating how to do this. This video is...simple, clear and straight forward. It stands on the high ground as it is and doesn't need translation into scripture.
