ST1300 lower windshield - any opinions?

I want more wind on my chest for hot days - stock windshield (55 cm) in lowest position delivers wind only to my neck area. Bought a mesh summer jacket, but it doesn't work without wind

Would like to try something lower, and found this:

HONDA ST 1300 PAN EUROPEAN 2002-2013 - SHORT SPORT WINDSCREEN / WINDSHIELD 45 cm, same width as stock, has smoked option (which could look nice on silver colored bike).

Any experience with lower shields - if they deliver the so-much-needed wind on hot days?

P.S. I have the upper wind-kit on the mirrors installed when I bought the bike, maybe that is a limiting factor too. And I never drive looking through windshield even when it is cold, so I don't need the full heights stock delivers.

As they are selling all sizes (small, stock, large), it could be just a random pic. Regarding wind deflector removal - I doubt it won't leave scars (adhesive tape, bolts??) on the mirrors.

I have a spare oem screen waiting to be cut down for test. And in the past, I have experimented with raking both oem and Clearview screens back further (increased the angle). I do look over top of the screens,, and %80 of the time,, I have the screen all the way down. It is nice to be able to raise it about 1.5 inches,, on longer highway rides,, to decrease buffeting, while still looking over the top. Aesthetically,,, I like the screen as low as possible. I have used them with the mirror deflectors,, and without,,, but prefer to have those in place. In the spring,,, I rode with the windscreen off,, just to test that extreme,,, and did not like it a bit. I also wear mesh,,,, a lot. Looking forward to your results,,, and I will likely test my shorty nearer end of July. Good luck,,, cheers,, CAt'

I'm following your results as well, plan on getting a Clearview shield soon, and am thinking of cutting stock shield 2 or even 3 inches shorter. I too got a mesh summer jacket, and discovered that the shield/ fairing on the ST do a VERY good job of blocking air.....LoL

The wind deflectors on the mirrors are not in line with your chest (well, at least for most of us) and should have little to no effect. Why not just remove your windshield and go for a short ride? That would answer your question.

This has come up before and someone cut down a windshield to provide more 'ventilation'. You can buy a used, scratched windshield cheaply and cut it with a jig saw. When you get it to the size you like, then you can work on your original shield or simply file and sand the edge of your experiment.

Dang it!, I cut this three times and its still too short.

I had the windshield off for other work,, and decided to go for a trial ride without it,, just for fun. Well it wasn't fun,,, as the air blast is amplified by the fairing,,, to a level considerably more than you get on a naked bike. In my experience,,, some windscreen is needed to moderate and smooth the airflow. And also,, I do ride with the mirror deflectors,, but not the lower deflectors. Although the mirror deflectors primarily deflect in the handlebar zone,,, they also modify the flow over and around any windscreen. It is a cumulative effect that the flow is shaped and smoothed by all the factors,,, deflectors,, windscreen, rake, riders arms, helmet,,, Laminar Lip (if used). CAt'

We assume your ST doesn't have the motorized adjustment for the windscreen? It has the manual "2 height" adjustment ?

All ST's have two different height adjustments where the shield attaches to the mounting arms (look underneath the plastic covers)

But the 2003 (non-ABS?) and previous can ONLY be adjusted by hand with a wrench, to move it up or down ... 2004 and beyond, the windscreen can be adjusted up and down via a switch at the left grip, electrically.

It has. And it is on lower bracket already. Still in lowest position it is about 10 cm above dash line.
