I'm getting ready to roll my own isolation harness/relays, and was wondering if there's a factory junction for the rear lights I could interrupt and make my own sub harness. I hate modifying factory wiring unless absolutely necessary. I've searched through several trailer posts and haven't seen anything.

I've already got a "Hitachi" connector kit and crimper that I've used in several locations on the bike already, so I'm prepped to make my own splitter harness.

Ask Tom (@STRider), he connected in to the factory wiring without splicing.
I know he did it for the brake lights. Maybe he can let you know where to connect in to for the running lights as well.

I just ended up modding the harness up near when the 3 or 4 looms under the tail become one, baring and soldering in new wires to run to my isolation connectors.

Well i got my tow bar £32 on ebay. it has the old school round plug fitted. I may also need to add a plate for safety chains. I noticed the quartet harness 9 pin has turn signal wires on it but i dont think it has brake lights which is a shame otherwise the whole thing could be wired from that. I will probably run the negative and turn signals from the 9 pin back and then find a place to tap in the brake light via a male to female extension wire with splitter

@number1barber you can make a safety chain plate under the ball. You do need enough thread under the hitch depending on how thick your plate is.

Obviously if you have a Unigo or Bushtech style connector it may vary.)

This one sticks out both sides of the ball, allowing you to cross chains if you have 2 chains.



I only had one chain so did this, between the ball and the hitch.



The brake light can be tapped from around the rear brake pedal (as i recall) as there's a plug there, so no cutting or tapping in is required.

Hello, I have an 2005 ST1300. I need some advise on what to purchase for wiring a Bush Tech trailer. I do have a hitch installed already, but need to wire the lights. What wiring kit did you buy and from where? How is it connected to the bike? I'm available for a phone call as well. Please advise.

Alternatively, call Electrical Connection, who "used to" make isolation harnesses and trailer harnesses for Bushtec trailers. I "think" I had to get a universal one, as they may not make 'em for the ST1300 any more.

I bought a used Roadstar from Dan Salata in FL, and he helped me connect the isolation and harness when I went to pick it up 4 years ago.
Since then, my ST's turn signals quit working, but that was after a year of successful riding and towing.
Separate issue, I'm convinced.
My trailer is wired straight to the battery, as I haven't installed a fuse block yet.

I see that it is to late to be of any assistance to you but I will post this anyway as another option for anyone looking for the same information in the future.

I installed a trailer isolation harness made by Kuryakan- See the below link.
It fully isolates the trailer lights from the motorcycle lights, which I consider a must. It has an electronic relay, not a mechanical one. It is fully waterproof, it is small, and it comes with everything that is needed to hook it up. One additional feature that is handy is that it also has an additional power wire to bring 12V accessory power to the trailer. I don't remember but I think that this is a 10 amp circuit, and it is also fully isolated from the motorcycle's electrical system. This is handy for any power requirements that a person might have in the trailer. I have seen it used to power an electric cooler mounted on the trailer tongue.

'Old school round plug'? Wasn't aware of any other type in the UK. Also, I chose not to use a car type electrical plug and use a more discreet 7 pin plug from Mono Trail https://mono-trail.co.uk/electrics/ although I'm not sure they are still in business.
