Just saw this on Bob's BMW website for sale. Never seen one of these before, $$$$$$$$$$$

Ted Norris (RIP), STOC 658, had a beautiful ST1300 with sidecar that I loved seeing at WeSTOCs. Ted’s son had a For Sale poST here but the link no longer works.

double darkside.

$29k plus??????
Guess half of that must be due to it's 'illustrious and distinguished' owners and riders.
Sure as hell nothing else to make it worth that!!!!

:rofl1:

Too late now buddy!!!!
Helluva marketing snow job.

Actually.....that pricing is not too far off base for one of the Euro-hack rigs. These are not a "bolt-on with universal bracket kit" affairs, must pass TUV scrutiny. They take sidecar building very seriously over there:

I've done some research on the EML sidecar conversions. It starts out at $17,000 for the kit. That front end build is over $3k. The construction of these sidecars is heads above anything we are used to over here. I personally think the price shown on the original post here is not too far off at all. The problem I do see is they don't have a good record of support here in the US. The brakes for instance are made by them and are no longer available. They also make some nice looking trikes which actually cost much more.

I just ordered a sidecar, mount, and front end from DMC Sidecars. Jay builds sidecars in Washington state. For the ST1100 the mounts and leading link front are custom built for the bike. For those rigs, the price is not out of line.

I had an '86 Wing with a car on it and loved riding it. A rig is a completely different experience from a bike. I would still have it if the Wing wasn't junk.

I thought it was pretty neat and would be a blast to ride, especially with kids. To put it in perspective my local Honda dealer sells plenty of Talon side by sides for around the same money.

I've often wondered how a sidecar comes into play with the bikes allowable total weight. I guess it would be like a trailer in that you'd have to calculate the "tounge" weight - although putting car tires on would change that too as the bike max weight takes into consideration both the load on the frame and tires from rider/passenger/gear.

For those rigs, the price is not out of line.

Well, the value of something is what people are willing to pay for it. Seems like the general consensus here (from those voicing opinions) is that the value is not there. I would agree... but I don;t think any 3 tire vehicle is worth much at all. If you can't lean... slide a car.

Do you want to give us more info on your sidehack fitment at DMC Jim?

Kerbside,
Thanks for asking. I posted the first announcement Here:
https://www.st-owners.com/forums/threads/what-did-you-do-with-your-st-today.166923/page-61 of "What did you do with/to your ST..." There were some follow up comments after it. If interested, check it out.

To summarize it. I chose the HD replica for it's design simplicity. Perhaps the mix of the old styling on the sidecar doesn't exactly mirror the curved lines of the ST, but It will be used largely to haul camping gear on my longer rides.

DMC Classic Sidecar.jpg

It will be color matched to my 2000 ST1100, Wineberry or what ever the official color name it is. DMC doesn't have a mounting "Kit" on the shelf, so a custom subframe/mount will be fabricated. Sidecars ride … no … make that DRIVE completely differently than a bike. To correct some of the handling, modifications to reduce trail in the steering are made. DMC is fabrication a leading link front, similar to the one pictured in the original post for this thread. In addition, The leading link front will use a pair of Nissin six piston calipers left over from the racing team parts stock. This ST will never be a BIKE again.

Consequently the Traxion Dynamics cartridge forks from my ST will be available for sale in the spring.
