OK, I admit it, I am a dummy. Took a ride today with a buddy on his new Victory, he asked me how much HP the ST had, I couldn't remember. Got home, can't find it in my owners manual, my shop manual, or on the Honda website, not listed in the spec sheet. So I give, what is the answer, and sorry in advance for the dumb question.

Honda claims 125 at the crank and various dyno tests have recorded 112-114 at the rear wheel.

Need to think of other things too, as already mentioned, torque, and then weight of the bike.

Looking at the BMW K1200GT, it has around 150 HP and the ST 120 (results vary of course), but what I found intereresting between the two was the RPM's. Even though the ST has less HP than the BMW GT, the HP was greater at every RPM until about 7,500. Don't look at me, I don't push my bike hard enough to see 7,500 RPM when I'm in the twisties, so I think my bike goes plenty fast enough!

I get almost 120 on the dyno with the K&N filter. I've heard of others getting this and a bit more with the filter and an exhaust upgrade.

Staintune and Two Brothers are the two popular exhaust upgrades. Not only is a couple hp gained, 12-15lbs. is eliminated.

I have the Staintunes. They sound great without being obnoxious or any louder cruising down the freeway.

Ray,

Quick question about those pipes. Are you able to change the rear tire now without removing the exhaust from that side? I thought that they might be a bit higher and allow the axle to come out without having to remove it.

Thanks,

Not sure about Ray, But I have to still have to take off the Staintunes to allow the axle to come out.

Next time you pull one off to change the rear tire, put it on a scale and multiply times 2. Those suckers are pretty heavy.

I think the HP is just great on this bike. The powerband is in a usable place, I am not having to try and redline it to get it to move, and i can cruise around all day in 5th with the rpm at 2000 if I want.

I just recieved my lastest American Motorcyclist magazine. It has an article about the IIHS and the classfying the ST1300 as a sportbike. If you have the mag, look at what they group the ST with. If someone from the IIHS actually rode, they would look at the categories and groupings and make all sorts of changes. It is not a Hayabusa or a Buell Blast, but they have it paired with them.
