Hey everyone,
I noticed that my bike will only shift from first to second gear, and now it’s stuck in neutral. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I’ve already replaced the slave cylinder, but that didn’t fix the issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It might be helpful to tell us the year, and model and miles on the bike. Did you flush/bleed the clutch hyd. system? Check the pivots on the handlebar lever? How does the clutch lever feel when you pull it? Check the shifter linkage for corrosion and stiff joints (clean and lube it). What else did you do to the bike besides swap out clutch slave cyls.?

The year is 2008, Mileage 25014. Added brand new Slave Cylinder, I did flush and bleed the clutch, and the clutch lever is good and tight. The pivots are good, I did check that out. I was not sure about the shifter linkage, but I just ordered one in case that is the issue. Besides that, I do keep up with my oil changes, and drive shift changes, brake flush, and radiator flush.

Maybe a dumb question, but are you testing the gearshift with the engine off, on the centrestand? The gearbox dogs can only engage when they align, so often you will need to slightly rotate the back wheel (and thus the output shaft) to shift right through the gears.

If when you replaced the clutch slave cylinder, you put the shift linkage on the shift shaft, even ONE spline off in either direction, it can seriously bind the shift linkage.
Try removing the linkage (mark it first) then try in one spline in each direction to see if that helps.
Also check the clutch lever bushing/rod assembly to see if the rod has worn the hole to deep, not allowing the clutch to disengage correctly.
Let us know what you find.

Can you shift thru all the gears on the center stand not running? No need to use the clutch lever just move the rear wheel a bit.
" I was not sure about the shifter linkage, but I just ordered one in case" guessnosis can get expensive but order enough parts and you might fix it.

Yes sir, I tested the gearshift with the engine off and once with the engine running. No dice.

Yes sir, it was the shifter linkage which was stiff on one end causing it not to engage. I had to clean and lube it and now it moves freely. Thank you.
