Morgens everyone!
Baby, it’s cold outside!
How cold Ethel?
-7˚c/19f, sunny (it rises as we speak), quite calm.

Hot coffee, brand Friele, bolied eggs, tomato pickled herring, brown goat cheese. No mimosa.

Yesterday was all about Peter.
We dressed up and took him to a beach to run off some steam.
Later his parents brought us some chinese takeaway.
A fine day!

Today will probably be all about Mrs Stus father. They called from the nursing home, he’s having some breathing issues.
Let’s hope for the best.
He used to be a nice person, until he was’nt.

Have a nice and warm day of sun!
Stu

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the coffee ☕ Stoo. I can see to the mimosa myself.

It's 30°F and cloudy in Rockville, where we expect a high around 39 under cloudy, cheerless winter skies.

I'll continue work on the bench today. I need to order a continuous hinge for the lid but while waiting for that to arrive I can start on the trim.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

Good morning and thanks for the coffee start, Stu.

It's 21 with some snow showers rising to 30, later.
The snow will end by noon, and the wind will be relatively calm.

Yesterday we got out and about to do some shopping, and to visit our Credit Union.
Later, we dined out at the recently opened pub that's local to us and retired to our evening activities.

We've got no real plans for today, maybe sweeping off the walkways after the snow ends.
Brenda's planning on some broiled chicken for dinner.

Enjoy the day,
Steve

Good morning, everyone. Thanks for the hot coffee, Stu.

30/49, and clear, if the sun ever decided to come up. A little nippy, but won’t complain.

Nothing planned, except a run to pick up my groceries. Strange, but I’m seeing a drop in prices on some items that I buy weekly. I also need to fill up the truck with gas and I’m wondering if prices have changed. Any political blip sends gas prices up about $.20 overnight, but takes months to settle back down.

Chilly morning, y'all, and thanks for the warmup Stoo.
41 outside at the moment.
Kaiser digs it.
I don't.
I need to do some oil changes but it's too cold.
And my brain is to cold to think of anything entertaining to post, so I should just pour a refill and go sit in the corner.
Noraly should have a new Kyrgyzstan video today, maybe I'll go watch that.
If you can't do what you want, then just do what you can.
Later.

I intend to crush 2026...
Right after I had my coffee... :coffee:

G'Day...

-4°/+2°C and sunny today... in the night gusty winds howled around the house...
Woke me up way early, still fully dark outside, took a leak, went back to bed, rolled restless...
and once I finally fell back to sleep... ze GF got up... just can't catch a break... ;)

got caffeinated... :coffee:

after that we killed that tree... the second time...
While I rummaged in the garden shed to grab the big pruning shears (up to 1-1/2"), ze GF picked all the
decorations off (including that sodomized baroque angel at the top) and put them back into their assigned boxes...
then I clipped all twigs at the root and brought them outside where ze GF placed them as frost protection blanket
around her rose bushes, then I cut the trunk in half and stuffed the rest into the BIO recycling bin, whilst ze GF
rolled out the big gun in form of her Vorwerk vacuum to get rid off all the pine needles...

So that's it, Xmas is a wrap...

Last night's gathering suffered a minor incident...
I'd tested the Raclette tabletop oven while laying the table, all fine...
the guests arrive, I flick the heater on again, the first pieces of meat start to sizzle and steam...
15 minutes into the mission the thing trips the ELCB...
OK then, change of plans, we used the contact grille flat and fully opened at 180° instead, which worked flawless...
Its a nice form of a slow dining... quite a feast... 🍽️
And with a small group of people, actual conversation takes place...

GF slightly peeved though as that TEFAL Raclette never saw much action over the years...
Already browsing with what we'll replace that thing...

No plans besides this, its SUNDAY for crying out loud... 😎

Good morning, all, and thanks for the coffee, Stu!

It's mighty chilly here too, as our first cold snap of 2026 persists. We have a current temperature of -16°C/3°F accompanied by a windchill of -22°C/-8°F. The temp will only inch up a few degrees to -13°C9°F, and the windchill won't change much. Sun's shining, though, so there's plenty of light. Still, I think I'll just stay indoors where it's nice and warm today. The blankie and a big mug of tea sounds like just the ticket.

Everyone have a good one, stay safe and go safely.

Patty

*grok grok grok* under my bed is what I awoke to at 0325, Princess #2 regurgitating some wayward chocolate wrappers the wife didn't dispose of properly. I'm sorry, why did we bother spending money for her surgery if we're just gonna kill her with stupid plastic?

Thus, I was not happy (being kind) when she awoke me 0747 with a phone call, in the mere hopes that a software update had fixed her phone's bluetooth. I'm gonna need the strong stuff, barkeep...er, coffeekeep...whatever. So, thanks Stu for keeping me out of jail this morning. Currently overcast and 37F/3C, as it has been for the last trillion days, but there is some hope as the week's forecast has us passing 60F on Wednesday!

Today we (read, I) take the tree down and break down the last of the boxes for recycling. And in an update on family news, the wife and MIL talked before Christmas so we are planning a visit in February. I am not thrilled but I will have faith that things will work out. The less I say, the better for our censors. At least I know where the local liquor stores are down there.

On my last day of vacation, I feel a sense of both accomplishment and anxiety for what I did/didn't get done. *sigh* I'm only human I guess.

Any political blip sends gas prices up about $.20 overnight, but takes months to settle back down.
Tariffs that get enacted like a light switch, a dictator extricated, a bomb gets dropped, or a chicken catching a sniffle, is all the excuse they need to hike gas prices. I think they enjoy watching us scramble from their penthouse suites.
I need to do some oil changes but it's too cold.
Agree. Hoping to hold out until Wednesday as aforementioned.

Welp, guess I'd better get to doing something, so take care y'all!

that sodomized baroque angel at the top

I know how that happened.

It seems Santa was having a Bad Day in the pre-Christmas rush. Manufacturing was behind schedule, Packaging was delayed, all the ribbon in Wrapping was off-spec, the wrapping paper was the wrong width, etc. etc. etc.

In the midst of all the chaos, the young angel had the misfortune to ask Santa where he wanted the tree placed. You can work out how he responded, I'm sure.

You didn't state whether or not you had a look at it to see what was wrong. Maybe it is something repairable. If it is an older one there isn't much to these types of appliances and I often find the problem is in the switch, the wires, or a connector and is a simple repair. I rarely find that the problem is the resistance heater itself, which usually can't be procured or is more expensive than a new machine.
vacuum to get rid off all the pine needles...
Good luck with that! No matter how diligently I vacuum the crap out of everything somehow I still find pine needles in August. The upside is that until I change the vacuum bag every time that I use the vacuum I will get a whiff of pine scent.

Good Morning, 7 C According to the phone, with possible light rain , some sun to break out this afternoon. Today's agenda, stay home and heal, went to emergency this morning like at 2 am got out at 4 am, last couple of days "it's been hurting" early this morning noticed blood in my urine, so Prayers would be appreciated. Did get a prescription to fill out. Seems the I torn a hole inside the plumbing, not good with Medical terminology, well hopefully Y'all have a better day than me G

Morning Stu & All from very cloudy skies over Southern Utah!

Currently it is 49F, up from 43F and heading for a predicted 47F...weather guessers missed it again! Rain or snow expected today, won't know until it hits the ground, if any! The winds are already blowing from the SSW @ 12 to 20mph. Actually they have been blowing all night!

Stu, I have a FIL the same way. Once he got over 85, it's like a switch was flipped! I try not to be around him any more than I need to! :cautious:

They changed the time Church starts for us. So now it's 1:30 to 3:30. grumble grumble. Not much we can do, there are 4 Wards (congregations) sharing the same building. Next year we will be moved to the 9AM slot.

Boiled eggs, bacon, toast & OJ to start the morning. Pepsi(s) to be had later.

Anyone :bl13:, have a great day on the roads! :hat3:

You didn't state whether or not you had a look at it to see what was wrong.
a) the thing is old...
b) nothing in there except a switch and an electric heater element, which (Sherlock Ohms confirms) is shunting to ground...
c) checked a couple of sources, no heater element for that model listed...
d) since decent, 8-person Raclette units start at about € 60,- I've seized further investigations... ;)
Good luck with that! No matter how diligently I vacuum the crap out of everything somehow I still find pine needles in August.
Yeah they're nasty... already clogged the small cordless vacuum at the joint/spiral between tube and powered carpet brush...
Which was the reason she dragged her massive Vorwerk Tiger 250 series sled vacuum cleaner down for this task:

The type of appliance you'd give your single child daughter as wedding trousseau, design from the 80ies, will outlive your grand-kids...
and they still carry all parts for that hulk... 😎
(fixed a broken wire in the automatic cord spool/winder, massive internal design... and a very happy GF over it being fully operational again...)

Construction on the body is done, save for installing the 36" continuous hinge on the top.

I've cut most of the trim pieces to width and at least rough length. Tomorrow I'll paint the parts of the frame that won't have trim glued to them, and get down and dirty with roundover bits shaping the trim before it gets glued on.

After that I'll cut, shape, and mount the "drawer front" panels over those open rectangles and it'll be ready for finish unless I decide to build a low plinth for it.
