This is the most important response in this entire thread. I believe you are correctImmersion is not what cools the pump. It is cooled by umping the fuel through the motor itself. A long, hot ride will raise the temperature of the fuel (it is pumped into the fuel rail and returned to the tank, continuously), so as the fuel volume decreases, the temperature of the fuel does rise. But still, the pump is internally cooled.
