The Honda Rune and Fortnine

The Rune, was Honda saying to the world "we can make anything we want to". It was made at a loss, never intended to make money. It was never something that I wanted, just not my style, but I would have it in a heartbeat. I was always proud of Honda for producing something like this.
Rather Art Deco IMHO, I only ever saw one in person, quite the rig. But these things aren't made to sell but to showcase what can be done.... the Millyard Viper V10, Dodge Tomahawk were one-offs..... how about the Yamaha GTS1000 or a more modern swag at it was the Yamaha Niken.... never intended to be a big seller, but they are still selling them (Europe).

The honda dealership in Bangor Maine had 1 inside a plexiglass cage...

That was a fun video. I saw one of these in a Honda dealership in Maysville, KY. I knew it was a special bike and this video showed me just how special it really is. The dealership no longer exists but the Rune will live on in my memory forever.

I don't know how many times I've seen a manufacturer make a concept car and been disappointed by the production version. It didn't always happen but it happened more then enough. The Rune isn't/wasn't for me. But I applaud Honda's "Sometimes you gotta say *****" attitude and action.
To be practical you'd have to buy at least two – one to ride and one for parts. But this wasn't a story about practicality. And it had drone footage!

A good friend of mine owns this bike however, he low sided with it and scraped up the right side pipe. To get a new one is near impossible. He wants to fix it up and then sell it. The problem with it according to the video is there are no parts available, it was a low production bike, and the parts are insanely expensive if you can get them.

I have a brother inlaw that has one. He has had several issues with it he had to get a lawyer involved to get it fixed one time. It has not run now for over 4 years because of a supposed bad computer. Looks nice but his dont even make a good coffee table.
Fortnine is in the Youtube show bussiness. He fibs a little on things. He is wrong on several points in this video but what ever.
I've rode 2 and love them both. I should have bought one when they were under $15,000 but I already had 2 old fashion Honda Valkyries.
Maybe my dealer only issued poster will be worth some more soon

At the time, there were lots of Valk guys hoping the new 1800 that was in the Wing would be put in a Valk frame with a few little updates. THAT would have sold to many Valk lovers. Maybe, the point was to eliminate that niche because ultimately many of those guys ended up on Wings anyway.
There were several concepts built before the production version:
The end result was truly a work of art and a great looking bike, except for one thing that drove me crazy.
The rear fender and thin tire, just needed to but shorter and allow a wider tire.
The 1500 Valk could be configured as a cruiser or tourer in several different ways and I was getting more into touring at that time. The Rune didn't look like you could have saddlebags and a top box would probably look strange, kinda like someone painting a Red Sox ball cap on the Mona Lisa.
So, I ended up with a Wing. I actually saw a guy on a Valk yesterday. It was in pretty sad shape but that bike definitely holds a place in my heart and motorcycling heritage.
