If you planning Rt 20 through Chicago beware. It goes through some of the most traffic congested and crime ridden areas in Illinois and Indiana. Michigan City to Rockford would take about 31/2 hrs by interstates. Rt 20 would be about 6 plus hours if traffic is good. Rt 66 through Chicago I would consider much safer and I wouldn't do that either.
