Coffee is doing more for your emotional health than therapists...
Regulating moods, preventing outbursts, keeping peace and balance in private life, work, and existential dread...
So: respect the bean... :coffee:

G'Day...

quite a crispy morning at -7°C, but sunny and -1°C during the day...
OTOH have they already issued a "snow warning" for Friday and Saturday...

We're finally back in the home-Nespresso<>office-Nescafé rut... ☕

GF has a slightly easier start: home office, then physio and to the office after that...

wasn't aware that they have to issue "snow warnings" in January... its winter, so?...

and that this place here has like a 'wrenching competition', has totally passed by me...
I was under the impression that motorcycle projects had been rated as 'interesting'...
still haven't figured out how its ranked though...
by the plain number of bolts being handled, or whoever dies with the most tools takes the win... 😇
likely something entirely different I'm not even aware off yet (or simply don't care), like 1300 being a (if not the) superior number... :shrug2:

However, don't let this Thor's Day bring you out of concept... 😎

I like that word - Thunresdaeg ( und auch ‘Donnerstag’ auf Deutsch )

It is much nicer than Thor’s day in English, although they are essentially the same thing, ‘Thundersday’ would be much nicer. We keep Wodens day more or less the same word although hardly anyone pronounces it as Wednesday, opting for the lazy ‘wensday’ instead.

And the less imaginatively named 7th month, eighth month, ninth month and tenth month that we still use, in spite of the fact that Julius Caesar shoved in two extra months that renders September, October, November and December mathematically inaccurate.

Always good to ponder over the important things in life with a good cup of coffee

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the nearly-end-of-the-work-week-by-any-name caffeine jolt, Martin. @jfheath great to have your company and insights here in the Coffee Club today.

It's 33°F and clear in Rockville. Mostly sunny with a high around 55 is what we're expecting later on. And in extra Good News, thanks to the bright sunshine it'll feel much warmer than it actually is, from 0800 until almost 1600. It might even be mild enough for a brief session with the neighbors, on the front porch. If more of winter were like yesterday and today, I'd hate winter a lot less.

It's uke group day today, after a few weeks' layoff due to the holidays falling on our regular session days. It'll be good to get back in the strum of things.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

Morning all, and thanks for the startup Martin.

Reminds me of the new T-shirts they have out for Super Dad's:

Just don't hang out with people who read phonetically.... "fa-thor vs fat-hor"

0C here and snowing. It switch from yesterday's freezing rain, and things are messy to say the least. It's supposed to drop down to -6, but yo-yo the next few days above and below freezing, with precipitation that *might* be temperature specific.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Obo.

@Weaselinsuit saw this and thought of you....

Lawyer: "Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?"

Witness: "No."

Lawyer: "Did you check for blood pressure?"

Witness: "No."

Lawyer: "Did you check for breathing?"

Witness: "No."

Lawyer: "So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?"

Witness: "No."

Lawyer: "How can you be so sure, Doctor?"

Witness: "Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar."

Lawyer: "But could the patient have still been alive nevertheless?"

Witness: "Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practising law somewhere."

Thx Martin!
And Obo, velly funny!:laugh-2x:

-9˚c/16f, sunny ( well , just above the horizon), quite calm for now…

Think I’ll go for a cold and slippery walk.
It’s good for me, they say.

Have a warmer one!

Thanks again Martin.
You know what for.
Another warm day, very little rain possible so we'll risk it.
But tomorrow they tell a different story... big storms, big rains, and maybe big tornadoes. Say WHAT!?
Probably will not ride, then.
I'm dawdling again, when I should be packing up for work.
But before I refill my mug here, I'll share what I found in my Inbox this morning (but it begs the question, should we always have been dead? It happened to Bowie, y'know):

Aging is an extraordinary process whereby you become the person that you always should have been.

Good morning, and thanks for the coffee, Martin.

It's partly cloudy and 29, rising to 43 and mostly sunny, later.

Yesterday involved a lot of nothing. Brenda and I just sat around watching TV and surfing the web.
We went to dinner, then were back at (non)work.

Today, I'll head over to the gym, with a stop at CVS for an anniversary card for Brenda.

Enjoy the day,
Steve

@Obo : one of my uncles was coroner in a relatively rural county in Kansas. In one case he had an actual exchange very similar to the one you describe, during legal proceedings related to the death of a (unhelmeted) motorcycle rider who had collided with the broad side of a van. The attorney representing the rider's survivors was clearly fishing for a "pain and suffering" finding on behalf of said survivors.

My uncle maintained the position that the rider had died instantly and did not lie suffering and in agony. The questioning went much as your story, up to the final moment when the attorney asked "Well how can you be so sure he died instantly?" whereupon my uncle replied "Because when I arrived at the scene, a large part of his brain was lying on the pavement next to the van."

Attorneys who thought they knew better than my uncle and could outmaneuver him in testimony generally didn't fare well.

Thanks again Martin.

Good morning, everyone. Thanks for the coffee, Martin.

It’s 52, and it’s so dark and foggy, that I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bella Lugosi wearing a cape, if I step outside. A slight breeze is making the fog swirl in ominous patterns across the driveway and Teddy decided he wanted no part of it. He just looked out the door and decided, “Nope, I’ll hold it.” Hopefully, it clears as we hit a high of 67. Can’t complain, with it being January.

I believe it may be a good day to straighten up and rearrange the garage and make a trip to the dump. I think my scrap/keep filter will be that if I haven’t used something in 10 years, it probably needs to go. Anyone want an accordion?

John

Good morning all!
Thanks for the start Martin!
Thanks for those who have inquired regarding Miss Judy!
She is struggling along, she isn’t much a a whiner, enduring whatever she is handed!

John, could you travel up & help me sort through my treasures? All good stuff, too good to just scrap!!!!!!!! You understand!!

I hope no-one was offended by today’s comments earlier, but, lawyers are easy targets!
Enjoy your day!

Remain seated and at all times keep your brain inside your head.

I didn't know that it had to be said but there it is.

It's too warm. Yes, that's right. It is in the 50's today. I'm not even in the 50's today.

You cats be safe and maintain brain location awareness at all times.

Good Morning, Thanks Martin , and Club for the entertainment this morning. Slight overcast, but can see the moon,2 C high 6 C , sunrise at 8:04 am, which means still dark outside. Make breakfast and take antibiotics only thing I'm sure I will be doing today, and a nap or two. That's all for now, oh yeah Y'all have a great day G

G'morning, all. Coffee hits the spot this morning, thanks.

The warming continues: the current 0°C/32°F (windchill -3°C/27°F) will rise to 2°C/36°F with a feels-like of -1°C/30°F before the day is out. It will be a mostly overcast day with the possibility of a few rays of sunshine peeking through here and there. Alas, there is some messy weather coming, in the form of a helluva lot of rain (tomorrow), followed by a helluva lot of snow (Sat. & Sun.). I think the thaw is supposed to peak on Saturday and then the temps start dropping again, hence the rain-to-snow metamorphosis. Happy January!

@Nashcat: John, were you chanelling Weird Al Jankovic in your youth? Well, I guess an accordion in a garage is better than a pig in a polka!

Everybody have a good one, stay safe and go safely.

Patty

G'mornin' from SoMD! Shanks for the coffee, Martin. Not only does it improve my well-being, it prevents the loss of consciousness of others from blunt force trauma.

It's our second sunny day in a row here and 36F/2C. They are threatening a good amount of rain tomorrow night into Saturday, so I guess I should think of stuff to do outside that would be of benefit...nah. I put the bike on trickle charger, that's about the extent of effort I made for something "outdoorsy".

I've plenty to do inside TYVM. WFH today plus doing a little laundry and cleaning up here and there. Time to git along. Take care y'all!

John, could you travel up & help me sort through my treasures? All good stuff, too good to just scrap!

Too good to scrap…..my exact thoughts. I still have some chrome trim from a truck that I sold 15 years ago.

Patty, The accordion was my mother’s and she tried her best to teach me how to play it. I later switched to piano, so I would have a place to set my beer.

Morning all! It's clear...ish here but frosty. About 4C with a predicted high of 7C and rain to come.

I decided to ride in on the ST this morning despite the temperatures when I left, about 2C or so. The roundabout before the entrance to the highway suggested that might not be the best idea and gave me a bit of a push sideways to emphasize its point. It was much better once I was on the highway and by the time I got to the City limits it had warmed up a bit. Still, maybe I should have engaged my brain a little longer when deciding on method of conveyance this morning.

You laugh at the bungled cross examinations but believe me, it's so easy to do; you get tunnel vision in the moment, so laser focused on the admissions that you are hoping to get that you let your questions get ahead of reality. Forest for the trees kind of thing. I know I've done it. My favourite cross examination exchange was the response of the police officer when asked why he would lock his locker in the locker room used by police at the courthouse; the lawyer trying to suggest that officer did so because the officer didn't trust his police brethren. The response was something along the lines of "because lawyers use the locker room as well".

Hope everyone has a great day!
