G'Day...

19°/28°C, morning still soggy @ >70% RH, providing a refreshing motorcycle commute in my mesh jacket,
mostly blue skies, last nights rain left few scattered clouds looking like shredded paper... 🌤️

the predicted thunderstorms didn't appear last night... ⛈️
overcast rolled in, one(!) grumbling audible, then aprox 1 hour medium rain... quite strong, gusty winds though... 🌬️

Its noticeable cooler though, much to the relieve of ze GF... ;)
Who is at her place, as she's getting new shading for the terrace roofing installed; fancy, motor driven and remote controller... 😎

In ze morning she was however struggling with home office (IT/remote connection acting up again) and the irrigation system...
Seems that the 5/4" check valve I'd installed on the vertical tube well didn't cope with the heat...
While the body is solid brass, the 'flap' inside is made if some plastics... 😒
The whole setup being housed in a small sheet-metal shed that's exposed to direct sun for 1/2 of the day...
I figured that something is failing when I spotted small black rubber chips (from the seal) in the filter placed right before the pump...
Anyway, she primed the thing and got it running again; gonna replace the dreaded valve with a full metal version on the w/e... 🔧

Great modern world, those old style check-valves, with cast-metal body and a leather flap/seal inside lasted for decades... 😒

I'm always in early, so I can enjoy some peace and quiet while tuning gently into the daily insanity...
And to avoid the increasing traffic density after 0730hrs...

Morning all, and thanks Martin for the startup.

15 for the ride in, headed to 36!! for the ride home. There's thundershower warnings in with that heat warning.

The AC unit was installed successfully for Thing 2, taking about 45 minutes of cutting wood and placing strategically to mount the window shaker. No screws were used in the apartment's windows, so as not to lose her damage deposit. The drive was uneventful, arriving back home a bit earlier than expected, just after 8pm. Not the best Canada Day I've had, but also not the worst.

It's 73 and sunny in MA this morning, rising to 93, later.

Ah yes, good to see coffee's still in it's rightful place, in spite of the monstrously hot weather! Thanks Martin.
Yesterday involved a trip to our daughter's house, taking my chainsaw etc. The idea was to cut down about 30 saplings cluttering her yard. Went well for about 15 minutes, until the saw would no longer run. Hmm? Eventually, I noticed that the spark plug had broken in two! So that'll continue another day... Work didn't stop, there were a shipload of flat rocks to be moved! Part of landscaping, involving building a long low stone fence, by deleting a tired old garden area.

Thanks for the coffee, Martin.

It's 80°F, sunny, and humid enough in Rockville to already feel like 90. The forecast high is 100, which could feel like 109. I think I'll stay indoors today, as much as possible.

Mrs. Fun has an 0835 flight departing from Dulles, so I've already been out to the airport and back. Amazingly I encountered zero traffic delays in either direction. It helps that the circus has left town for the summer and we're in the run-up to a holiday weekend; many folk appear to have taken the day off, leaving the highways clear enough to run at or above the posted speed limits.

It's Thursday, so I'll be playing uke with the group this afternoon. Other than that I've got time on my hands. What could possibly go wrong?

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.
 
Thanks Martin, Thursday is our Friday and the 3rd is the 4th, as the office is closed tomorrow.
We were going to watch the big fireworks gala last night at the local ball fields, after they had broadcast the soccer match on the jumbotron (why don't they just call it a giant tv?)... but I arrived home soaking wet from work.
Well, soaking wet from the thunderstorm, after leaving work, is the more accurate story.
As I headed south on the interstate, I saw I was riding directly into the deep, dark maw of a wicked-looking storm in the distance, but looking to the west and the bypass in the direction I was going, the skies were clear.
So just before I navigated the interchange, I felt a couple of small stinging droplets on my cheek (visor up), and once westbound it was no more.
Until 2 miles from my exit, it began to sprinkle, but not enough to get me wet. The traffic began to back up, but I rode around a long line of cars and waited for the light to change at the bottom of the ramp.
And waited.
And waited.
Then I saw a police cruiser who had pulled off the offramp ahead, and got out to unlock the traffic light control box.
So I waited in line 100 yards from my turn.
And waited.
And waited.
The sprinkle turned to steady rain.
I began to get wet.
I had been stopped for at least 5 minutes (surely that cop is going to have to let us go! traffic is backed up beyond the offramp, onto the freeway!), waiting for him to trigger the light to change so I could proceed.
Finally I cut across two lanes of traffic to my right, passed another long line of cars, and made a right turn instead of my preferred left turn.
The rain continued to intensify, and my sunglasses removed even more daylight than the dark incoming thunderhead already had.
When I made it to the house, it was pouring hard, I was soaked (the summer mesh jacket didn't shed any water at all, just absorbed it), and the hot shower felt really great, as did the dry clothes.
So we didn't go to the fireworks show, maybe it had quit raining by then, dunno, but there was a large crowd as I heard on the radio this morning.
There may be more popup showers later this afternoon, but I'll pay more attention and use the rain gear this time.
But no one was hurt.

Mornin' from SoMD! Can't really call it "good" when it started at 0700 above 80/80 (80F/80%RH). Just brutal even at this early hour. Yet I drink my hot coffee like a man (fine...with cream and sugar...a very soft man), thanks Martin!

Headed up to 101F/38C and I'm all for not becoming a JD-BBQ. Keeping my tuchcus inside and thanking Mr Willis Carrier for inventing the air conditioner. Nothing happening outside, and if anything out there spontaneously combusts, I'm letting it burn. Garage work at most. I hear small power epqt brapping from landscapers and pray they get done early. Them and roofers have to have the worst jobs on these days. I did my mowing last evening (didn't need a flashlight, but did need several towels!).

Currently it is 75F, heading for 85F. No breeze yet, but later the winds will be out of the SW @ 15 to 27mph.

I was able to put on another layer of Kilz to the garage door frame. I'll add another today. As I was mowing the lawn last evening, I'm noticing a lot of brown spots. Large areas I should say. I'll head over to the local Nursery and see if they have any ideas what I can do to bring it back!

Once Chris is up, we'll fry some eggs for breakfast. And have a couple of Pepsi(s) later.

Morning all! Grey and overcast with rain on the way. 15C now, 15C later.

Working from home today as the pest control guys are coming to deal with the carpenter ants that keep invading. They must have a massive nest up in the roof somewhere (we have a flat roof...or ruff as the dogs call it). Hopefully, this will get them all.

Sadlsor, I often scoot up the side during rainstorms when the traffic gets backed up. Figure it's slightly safer than getting plowed into from behind by someone not paying attention to traffic or their traction. I have no doubt that one day I will push my luck too far, pass the local gendarmerie and end up with a nice big ticket.

Even though it is illegal here and I don't do it anyways, I had to resort to it recently. Stuck in traffic due to some wreck or whatever. I had decided to not put my rain gear on before I started home. Then it started spit spatting...big drops just before it starts dumping. I checked around me, rain stopped, I kept a bead on everyone around, it started hocking again, and I decided that one time I wasn't going to just sit and take it to the joy of the cars around me. I squirted onto the shoulder and took side roads past the blockage.

Yup, asphalt workers and a/c techs, esp up on hot roofs or attics, also qualify.
 
Good afternoon all!
At one point in my life, I ran steam heated equipment to manufacture cardboard boxes. It was a critical lesson on staying hydrated!
Summer’s humidity just added a little extra to the everyday mix!
It’s a beautiful day here again, currently we’ve reached our high of 75F.
