Tie down points

Hi.
I have had a problem of going on ferries and having a good tie down area for the front.
If I put the strops on the handle bars it knocks of the blinker/mirror.
Where do other people use tie downs with out this happening.

Pop off the plastic tip over covers (one Allen head bolt under each one) and then tie down to the tip over bars. Very sturdy and secure!

I've seen it written here that you should not use the handlebars as tie-down points. I don't know if the owner's manual addresses that but you might check. The tip-over bars is a good suggestion. Just be careful putting the covers back on. It may be just me but it was easy to cross thread those screws. I didn't. As soon as I felt it I did the "anti-clockwise till it clicks than clockwise till it fits" dance a few times for both sides. Then it was good job.

I do use my handlebars when I trailer my bike. The higher the attachment points, the steadier the bike.

I pass one strap hook under the headlight, between the fork tubes, around the back of one tube, and hook it onto the bottom of the handlebar next to the bar clamp. Then the same thing on the other side.

For a ferry, I'd probably pass a strap under the seat, or just one pulling the bike toward the side-stand.
