Top Box Keyed alike?

Interesting topic detour... I have stashed on my 1100 a spare ignition and padlock key in a special secret location *

Haven't arrived at the same on my 1300, but my ignition key goes commando - bare metal, no keyring or anything. When I park, I collect the knob-keys from the bags, my ignition key and lock them in the left fairing pocket. I then carry my bike key along with the Givi box key and a couple of keys for small padlocks I use for a jacket and helmet cables as well as to lock the zipper of my SW-Motech tankbag, which locks it to the bike too.

If you want a Honda OEM key you will have to get the blank from Honda. They can be purchased from any Honda dealer as well as many other outlets including online vendors. You don't need to have it cut at a Honda dealer- any competent key cutting place can do it.

If you just want a key and don't care whether it is a Honda key or not the below article has a list of alternates that work. The ILCO 265 is pretty common and usually easy to find.
I prefer going to a local locksmith to have keys cut as opposed to big-box stores. They usually do a better job, the key works first time and works more smoothly because it is cut better.

Many do not use the original Honda key because there have been many reports of these keys breaking in the ignition. Many use one of the listed alternates because they are less likely to break as they are said to be made of harder material.

Thanks Andrew. I have lots of pictures of my bike including keys, but not one that showed the key blank number when I needed it!

Here's what my locksmith provided for me. ILCO X265.
