last night's "thermal thunderstorm" missed me by about 10 minutes on the way home...
the few puddles it left dried out fast on the hot tarmac...

home and office coffee... ☕

all the "heat warnings" seem to have influenced ze GF...
a couple of days ago she dragged a large roll of rigid, padded foil to my place...
by the looks the type NASA would use to protect space-probes from the harsh radiation out there... :unsure:
anyhoo, she cut precise squares and fitted them to the outside of my apartment windows... :oops:
(facing east into the courtyard, so direct sun in the morning, reflecting sun from the opposite building windows in the afternoon...)

I don't mind her darkening the place... ;)
This and my 'mobile split a/c' makes it quite comfortable...

Good morning everyone

thanks for the coffee, Martin, and for the civic-minded volunteerism as an election worker JD.

It's a muggy 69°F in Rockville after small showers dampened us yesterday evening. More of the same are likely between 0800 and 1700, with the temperature hovering between 65 and 71.

My friend and onetime college roommate lives an hour or so away, in Virginia. He'll arrive here in the early afternoon and we'll head for the Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, to gawk at the Big Boy locomotives. Our tickets don't get us entry until tomorrow morning so we'll camp this evening in Lackawanna State Park. I see him far less, and far less often, than I'd like so this will be a great opportunity to renew the friendship.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

It's been raining off and on since yesterday morning, and that seems to be the theme for today.
67, heading to 70 with fog currently outside.
It's projected to be cloudy with occasional showers until evening.

Yesterday's track event was lightly attended, and ended early.
I didn't count them, but I think there were about 5 street cars and 4 race cars out on-track.
The street cars were done after lunch, and the race cars did a few more laps, before ending the day around 2:30-ish.

Brenda cooked pasta and sausages, and then we settled in to watch the World Cup and baseball.

Today, we'll hang out at the house, before Brenda's Tuesday night bowling.

Yesterday I rejoined Sam's Club, with a $15 special deal. Their gas price are equal to Costco, or within one cent usually, allowing for cheapest gas options in more places around town. But I wouldn't have joined for $60, as we already have a Costco membership.
So I went to Sam's at lunch, but in my haste to get back to the office before the dark threatening clouds hit me, I parked, and walked straight into Walmart.
Idiot!
The two massive buildings are literally right next door to each other, and I wasn't paying attention.
At all.
I grabbed two pints of Hagen Dasz ice cream, checked out, and ran back to the bike. Got the bag in the top case, and... Boom! Crack! Pour!
Massive water from the heavenlies.
I was nearly soaked by the time I pulled out the rain gear and got it on me.
The rain stopped before I even rode out of the parking lot.
I left all the wet gear in an empty spare office in the building, and it was mostly dry by the time I went home.
I can almost see a patch of blue sky through the clouds, but it's gonna be another sketchy weather day. A few more days like this is entirely possible, maybe even likely.
I'm ready for hot, hot, dry late June to show up.
As I type this, they just changed the forecast again. Now it's little chance for rain, with "Excessive Heat."
Really?! The high for today shows only 80°.
Not what I'd call "excessive", I mean, what will they call 98° in a few weeks?
I don't get it.
They must be high, or maybe drinking "excessively."
(Reminder: no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes.)
Reckon I'll take my chances, and take Kaiser to work. First time in days.
So, as usual, I've put down a lot of words, and said basically nothing.
But what else am I gonna do while I drink my coffee and try to wake up?
Thinking of something else to say (don't worry, I'm almost done), I'm reminded of a lyric from one of my favorite songs by Atlanta Rhythm Section...

Coffee and oatmeal are down the hatch, so now I'm preparing a list - a usefulness list... Overcast skies, with a bit of shower activity is today's reality. Rain's particularly predictable today. While washing the Roadmaster yesterday, it did occur to me that that causes rain, lol. The bike hadn't been touched since returning home from OhSToc last Tuesday. The day after had been reserved for the lawnmower and picking up the new Honda. Thursday, off to Portland Maine as well as Wiscasset (attractive town, btw) for a number of old home tours. Turned out to be a nice anniversary gift to ourselves. Got home Saturday night, tired! What of the list? Some correspondence, maybe wash the Roadcrafter suit... done, and done.

Yeah... one newsgroup over here headlined today's forecast highly dramatic with "... sweltering madness ..."

Interesting though, that while moaning loudly about local temps beyond 30°C/86°F, folks still favor holiday destinations where they have to expect 40°C/104°F and more... :shrug2:
 
Good morning and thank you for the morning start. 55 going to 74 later in the day back at home in Lompoc.

Yesterday's ride was 1062 miles with temps starting at 43 in Mancos Colorado with temps staying decent though Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon but rising to 111 after crossing the Colorado River near Needles.

Morning all! Sunny with some high cloud, changes likely coming. 21C now, 31C predicted high.

Pest control is coming to spray the house for carpenter ants today so I loaded the pups in the car and brought them to work with me. So far, they have raided a garbage can and briefly gave everyone in a meeting a laugh as they could be heard gulping down water. Office clowns....

Late Morning Martin & All from sunny and smoky, Southern Utah!

Currently, as it is approaching noon, it is 87F, heading for 96F (or more). The winds are already blowing, from the N @ 8 to 12mph. And later, they will increase from the WSW @ 18 to 28mph.

The fires around here are only increasing as well. One started just north of us, east of the city of Beaver, and spread quite quickly. This is what the west looked like last night around 8:30PM (from a friend's back yard).

That smoke is from a couple of fires in the southeastern part of Nevada, over 100 miles away, & BTW, that's the Sun, not the Moon!

I got ambitious yesterday afternoon and started scraping the doorway to the side of the garage. The paint has been peeling for a couple of years, and if I don't get it painted, I'll have bigger issues.

Today, I'll see what supplies I'll need from Home Depot, and pick them up before working on it later, after the Sun is not directly on it.

Eggs, bacon, toast & OJ to start the morning. I'm drinking a Pepsi now, and will have one when I eat some lunch.
