Thanks for the take-off, Martin. My coffee's down the hatch, I'm hoping I'm awake. Some of you Ontario people may remember Beeker. (Dennis & Cindy) We four went out for dinner last night, and chatted for quite some time afterward. Shortly, we'll do breakfast together - more coffee... Later, back to getting the kinks out of next week's WoodSToc. Many of us have fond memories of past STOC events!

Thanks for the start, Martin.

It's 69°F and mostly clear in Rockville at the moment. Mostly sunny with a high around 86 is on tap for later. The feels-like will run about a dozen degrees above the actual, for much of the daylight hours.

Tonight is National Night Out, an event intended to establish stronger ties between neighbors, promote Neighborhood Watch programs, and build better relations between residents and police. As we've done nearly every year since moving to this address, we'll join the neighbors in our court for a potluck dinner and conversation, out front of the house.

Late this afternoon I've got a routine doctor's appointment. Before that I'm thinking today, particularly this morning, might be a good time to break out the kayak. It never got in the water last year and hasn't yet this year either. I can combine trips, visiting a local farm stand on the way home to pick up some produce for the week.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

It's 56 and sunny in MA this morning, heading to 83 with more sun, later.

The Club event at the track didn't happen, so we spent the day mostly hunkered down to wait out the storm.
Well, we DID go out to the local warehouse store for a few items that we need, and did an early dinner at one of our local pub-style restaurants.
Most of the items we bought are still in the car, because they are heavy, and the rain was heavy. We'll take care of that, today.

Today, I'll head over to the gym, get a haircut, and attend this month's First Tuesday meet-up.

Good morning Martin and thanks for getting us started.

64F here under bright sunshine, heading to a forecast 81F (meaning it will hit at least 85F). Hopefully the humidity will be lower today.

After yesterday's heavy rains I'll spend some time wandering around outside the new garage trying to adjust landscaping (OK, piles of random dirt) to direct water flow for the next deluge. Since there is now a concrete floor and the electrical work has started the doors can be framed in and the siding finished. This means completion should be soon ...... and then the fun of putting all my "stuff" into it begins.

To make matters even more fun, sometime a few days ago I apparently had a run-in with a poison ivy plant. Both legs below the knees have an interesting array of very itchy spots! Topical meds have kept the itching to a tolerable level.

Today I'll hang a couple LED shop lights in the garage, consider making some sourdough bread, do some aforementioned landscaping and attempt to organize a menu for the week - my meals have become rather sporadic and random lately, I need to get better about that.

Oh yeah, speaking of meals, even though I have a wire fence around my cucumber patch, something has been eating the plants. I need to decide if a better fence is required or just give up!

Be safe, be careful and try to avoid the avoidable.

Thanks Martin, and forgive my forgetting to congratulate your barn find of 1100 parts. I trust the cleanup of same will prove worthwhile.
Meanwhile, Monday's ugly sister has descended fully upon me, with predictions / guesses of high probability of rain this afternoon.
Just an unusually wet summer, and Kaiser stays home and the trailer stays covered in the driveway.
My next project after the Element radiator repair will be to fire up my ST, which no one has seen on the roads at all in 2026.
I don't dislike anything about it, but the GSA is every bit as comfortable, and, well...
No excuses.

Did you ever fix your turn signal problem on your ST? I remember that you had checked all of the obvious, and some less obvious, possibilities and still hadn't found the failure. Because it is a basic electrical circuit I am curious to know what the culprit was.

Try Zanfel for the poison ivy.
It worked for me, when I contacted some while mowing my friend's grass a few years ago.
Kind of expensive, but worth it, IMHO.

It's on my LOTD / List Of Things To do.
Part of the reason it's been sitting, but no excuses.
I'll either find my original thread, or start a new one soon.
After the radiator, which should be here tomorrow.
 
Morning Martin & All from sunny, Southern Utah!

The heat continues, along with all these fires out here in the western end of the States! We have a little bit of the smoke, a slight haze, but it's not that bad.

Currently it is 81F, heading for 98F. There is a slight breeze, but later the blast furnace will be out of the sw @ 10 to 17mph.

I'm not sure what I'll be doing today. But I'm sure it will be nothing exciting.

Boiled eggs, bacon, toast & OJ, for the morning start. Plenty of Pepsi(s) in the fridge, for later.

Morning all! Sunny and blue skies here. 15C right now, 26C for a high later. Good thing I wore shorts to the office. It still feels weird to that though. When I started in this profession it was suits and ties and considered somewhat daring to take your jacket off in the office. Funny how attitudes and sartorial rules change.

Back in the office for the first time in a week. Had to take the cage as the bike is down with a flat. The shop I take it to won't be able to look at it till Thursday so I expect I may be working from home more this week again so I don't have to pay for parking for the car. On a completely unrelated note, did I mention my ancestors were Scottish?

Well, huh.

I've not seen a Royal Enfield on the road in years, maybe longer. Today I saw not one but two, in what seemed the most unlikely of places- what seemed an otherwise deserted boat launch along the C&O Canal.

Edwards Ferry is an historic spot along the C&O Canal, and was once one of several ferries that operated to carry people, horses, and goods back and forth across the Potomac between Maryland and Virginia. The ferry is long gone but there's a boat launch, and the C&O Canal towpath runs across the entry road.

It was the boat ramp that was my target for today, as I wanted to take my kayak out for a paddle and that section of river is quiet, slow-moving, and very tranquil. When I arrived I noted an Enfield (in the style of a classic 350) parked up in the shade, but saw no sign of the rider. Continuing with my business I backed down to the water and unloaded the folded up boat along with my paddle, life jacket, and various other gear, then drove back up the launch ramp and parked in the shade.

By the time I'd walked the 40 or 50 yards back to my pile of stuff the Enfield rider, a Frenchman originally from Paris but who has lived Stateside for decades now, had appeared. He was very curious about the boat, having never previously heard of or seen an origami kayak.

He very obligingly helped me unfold it and get it ready to launch. While we were at it we talked about his bike a bit- there's a RE dealer in a suburb near mine, which is where he'd gotten his. After the boat was ready to go I thanked him, we shook hands, and he was on his way.

A couple hours later, just as I arrived back at the landing and had gotten the boat up on shore, another rider came down. I was walking up to get my car and noticed it was another Royal Enfield- this time the 650 "Interceptor" model. Wow- two REs in one day! And, as it turns out, from the same local dealer. (That wasn't as much of a surprise, as that's the only RE dealer anywhere in the region, as far as I know.)

Returning to the boat, I started a conversation with the rider as I set about dismantling and folding my craft. Like his predecessor, he too offered to lend a hand and did so when I needed one.

While we were at it, a few other people materialized from Heaven-knows-where. They, too, where curious about my strange contraption. Apparently they're odd enough that curious people will appear from the woodwork to ask questions; I think that has happened nearly every time I've had it out.

So, it was a good and surprising day- a great paddle, two Enfields, and two very pleasant riders. Life is good!
