upgraded seats

I have a Sargent seat and it works great for me.

It's not nearly as soft as stock and if one were to sit on both without riding, the impression would be that the stock seat is more comfortable. Actually riding for a while tells a different story. I can comfortably sit on the Sargent for several hours at a time, but I couldn't with the stock seat. I don't know how one can do a long ride test without buying a seat, but softer is not necessarily better.

A friend has an RDL. I rode his bike. The RDL wasn't tailored to either of us. It didn't seem to matter to either of us. It's not the ideal commuter seat since you have to slide forward to put your feet down. But I think it's even better than the Sargent for really long rides. I can ride full tank to empty with the Sargent easily. With the RDL I could probably keep going if I could re-fuel without stopping.

I think the key to the RDL comfort is that it provides thigh support so your butt isn't bearing the full weight. Sort of like a typical chair does.

All that being said, I would probably stick with my Sargent even if someone gave me an RDL. Take that with a grain of salt because I rarely do more than 200 mile days anymore.

I'm a bit long legged so I don't have to slide forward on the RDLs on my ST1100s - back to that anatomy thing. ;)
A riding friend of mine has a RDL 'sport' on his Ducati which is comfortable but has less of the 'wings' to eliminate that issue for him.
Sargent makes a great seat as do Laam and other folks.
IIRC, Terry Adcock, a local guy, used to make great seats but unfortunately he passed away from cancer.
I have a Saddleman Gel seat which was 'custom' at the time I got it but it was about 300 miles and done for me.
But it did come with a built in 'bun warmer' - leave it out in the direct sunlight and you got a real 'hot' seat!
I've got Airhawks, Alaskan Sheepskins, Beadriders - just about all the options out there I tried over the years.
