Maybe someone can share what they use for a heavy duty waterproof PHONE-touch screen holder/case
It’s easy to find one for normal round bar handlebars on most bikes..but what do you all use for the handlebars on the ST 1300? Or
Someplace to mount in general..(no suction cup on windshield suggestions please...I’ve had no luck with them)
I ride long distance and are on bumpy dirt roads occasionally and want a durable holder.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions..

@Motorcycle Dave is a member of this forum. He is also a vendor on this site and has his own business. One of the things that he sells is phone mounts.
He also rides an ST1300 so he is familiar with the requirements.

Check out his thread below. That particular thread is not about waterproof holders, but give him a shout and maybe he has something that he can fix you up with.
the worlds best, TackForm phone mounts

Across about 5 motorcycle forums, I've seen multiple reports of damage to the optical image stabilization on iPhones (Android too?) when mounted on the bike, even when using a mount designed to prevent this. Of course, I 've also read of many riders with thousands of miles with no problems. Just a thought to consider before mounting your phone on your bike, especially considering your bumpy dirt road riding. Here is Apple's comment on this from September 2021...
Personally, I use a Garmin motorcycle GPS, with my iPhone in my jacket pocket synced to my Sena SMH10. Via Siri, I can get just about any info I want (messages, phone, music, etc) without seeing the phone screen, except for who's calling.

Good point..I use pactalk and also a garmin 500 series and use a go pro for video....just looking for a solid rain proof holder that won’t rattle off the bike....I can put my phone in my tank bag on rough roads..but still want a holder to use the phone...

check out RAM Mounts. that's what came on my bike when I got it. mounts to the center plate between the bars

Haven't read of any damage to Android phone cameras mounting on bikes. And many years of mounting my Android phone has resulted in no damage like that. Also the ST bikes ride a lot smoother than some other bikes where the iPhone damage is more likely.

I tried a waterproof RAM Auqua Box for my car GPS unit once and gave up on it. The mounting was fine but the screen made it hard to see the GPS screen just by being an extra layer. That was 12 years ago however so I'm sure those boxes are much better now. Just something to think about.

This issue is one of the big reasons I went to a water proof phone. My Pixel 4 has the same IP68 rating as motorcycle GPS units. But that's likely not an option for you either.
What I've often read others do is use a RAM mount and put a zip lock bag over their phone when it rains and otherwise not worry about it. There are a lot of phone holders that are very secure.

RAM mounts are not only for handlebar attachment. There are a lot of ways to install one. There are reservoir caps that have a RAM ball and even RAM ball bases that can mount on the dash with just a little work. I did that latter method. On my ST1100 I added a flat aluminum bar painted black across the top of the dash and put a RAM ball on that and initially mounted my Aqua Box on that. A bar can be added to the top of the dash on the ST1300 much easier than on the ST1100 since there are screws on the top that are easier to work with. Using a short RAM arm reduced any normal shaking to almost un-noticeable, and yet any damaging vibes from the bike are dampened since the RAM balls are rubber.

These guys... vibration proof... and weather proof cases too.

I'm a big fan of the RAM Quick-Grip line of phone holders.

Regular
XL

These mounts are waterproof - meaning the mount won't be affected by wather - but I suspect your question was for a mount that protects a non-waterproof phone inside a waterproof case/enclosure.

Here's an enclosure sold by SW-Motech which attaches to their tankbags using a MOLLE mounting system.

I think the challenge is to simultaneously enclose to protect and to feed power to the device (if that's important to you). A properly designed system can do both using either a proprietary connector (eg. RAM's Intelliskin products) or a wireless charger with a compatible phone, where the phone resides in the waterproof case and the mount incorporates a wireless charging base. RAM has offerings in both of those areas.

I personally attach my Samsung phone to my ST1300 using a RAM Quick-Grip XL with a RAM ball on MCL bar riser hardware. The charging system is not waterproof - I use an SAE cable to an SAE to USB high output charger to power the phone. In the event the weather turns liquid, the phone will go inside my riding suit or my tankbag and the weather/dust covers go over the USB charger. It works for me.

Look into the Tech Mounts. They make various mount options for most bikes. I use the one designed for the controller switch.

I have 2 of the Ram Quick Grip XLs, and I love them. I used the original Ram X Grips and they were ok. The Quick Grips are easier to use. Jevers

Of which item. The AquaBox or the bar with RAM ball?

This is the AquaBox empty. the power cord can be seen coming through a water resistant opening in the back.

And the mounting bracket I made for it.

And this is the bar with the RAM ball I replaced all that with and my GPS unit attached.

This is all on the ST1100.

Hi Dave and everyone else.....
real quick, I have seen it mentioned that the shaking/vibration of iPhones messes up to camera, I don't feel that is a problem
when using the TackForm mount. Tack Form mounts are NOT again NOT plastic they do not move around and shake like the others
they are made of machined aluminum then Anodized or Chromed they are ALL metal.
I always sell at discount prices always below MAP I am always lower than Ebay & Amazon for the same products.
AND NOW I am a dealer for TUCKER ( used to be Tucker Rocky ) if you find a product you want give me a call with the part number
I will give you your price.
Check out Nicks video for Tackform Mounts

Tack form has a phone mount that works with your old Ram Ball unit and it will not push your buttons on the side of the phone
like the X mount does. I have them in stock
