For years I have used old Olympus Stylus 720s and 760s but due to age they are dropping like flies.
I just had two fail on my last trip.
I don't necessarily need a fully waterproof one, but one that can stand a bit of rain.
And one that does good quality shots on the fly without a bunch of setup stuff.
I'm looking for a camera with a PHD - P(ush) H(ere) D(ummy)! ;)
 
Cherie has been using a camera like in the photo for years, hers is a TG 5 and I am not sure what the differences are but hers takes pretty decent photos. I think when she first got it the set up was such that it focused on the closet thing in frame and it resulted in the back of my helmet being the only thing in focus but once we figured out the settings everything worked well. Cherie like most people now takes more photos with her phone than the camera though.

+1 on the Olympus Tough (TG) camera series. I've got a TG-4 that's waterproof to 50 feet with no housing. I snorkel with it, no problem.

Takes great photos, easy to use. Pocket sized, too.

Only shortcoming is a pretty wimpy zoom feature, only 4x optical. Other than that it's a solid piece of kit.

You might find a used one on FleaBay for rea$onable money.
 
Another thumbs up for the Olympus Tough. Mine has been beat up for 8 years now; going strong & happy with the pics.

As I found out, Olympus got bought and now goes by OM Systems.
They now use SD cards instead of XD cards.
Looks like I may go with the TG-7 as it has gotten really good reviews from many users.
They are pretty pricey, but they appear to be really good quality.
I also discovered that if you do not buy them from an 'authorized' dealer, you do not get the manufacturer's warranty.
And WalMart and Amazon are not dealers though they sell them ... ;)

The Fuji cameras are great. One of the most popular among IBR riders. I have the FinePix XP140. Long battery life, water and shockproof. Served me very well in more than one IBR.

As little as possible ... ;)
There are some 'used' options and 'renewed' options but I have not had good luck with using those.
They tend to go south after a short period of time.
I even bought a couple of 'new' Olympus Stylus cameras but I guess due to their age, the optics failed in them.
I plan on going with new and an extended warranty if I am going to pay a 'new' price.
 
That's okay. I planned to give it away. I just don't use it and we're moving. Someone local will get a nice camera.

I've been using the Canon PowerShot for a few years. They take good pictures, but I've had problems with the lens getting scratched (I ride dirt roads a lot.) And the lens is not replaceable.
 
I've got a Canon Powershot laying around here too. The Panasonic Lumix is what I used to take pics on trips till I bought a smart phone. The 12x optical zoom worked well. The Canon Powershot was a simple point-n-shoot, but my FIL took some fantastic pics with it...till he also got a smart phone.
