I want to turn a buddy of mine onto a textile jacket for his birthday. What suggestions do you have for a good ol, regular ol, all around riding jacket. I dont think he has ever had a motorcycle specific jacket. Suggestions?

Tourmaster Jacket. great value, customer suport, and durable. They come with zip out liners and zip open air vents, so one jacket can be used for all year rideing.:):):03biker:

I have a tourmaster 3/4 length. I wish I wouldnt have got the 3/4 length but other than that its a great jacket. Any particular tourmaster?

Well it depends. I've got the Intake air two mesh and the transitions jacket. I love them both. Is 3/4 length the one that comes down to your belt or longer, I forget. The transitions jacket extends beyond the belt line. the air flow system works very well. You can leave them open in the rain and it channels the water away from your body while it still allows air through. Thats cool.:03biker:

I don't have one, but lots of folks swear by the Olympia AST. I think AST is the right name for it. I've got a Firstgear that has been a pretty good jacket.

Well first of all it's great you are getting him such a great BD present. Second, you can't go wrong with any of the Olympia line or Tourmaster.

If you like the Tourmaster line also consider the Courtech line, a sister to Tourmaster. They share the same website.

Cortech is a little more sport rider oriented, Tourmaster a little more tourng rider.

I have the Cortech GX-Air with leather (I'm wearing it in my avatar). They have a newer model of my jacket available now but by reading the review of the new model it is not as highly regarded as the version I have :(linky -> http://www.newenough.com/protective...master/gx_air_series_2_motorcycle_jacket.html.) It has the features of the Tourmaster Intake but has a heavier mesh fabric (more abrasion resistance) and also very good looking and supple leather parts in the contact areas of the shoulders, middle of back and the back of the arms. It still has the same two piece liners (insulated & rain) as the Tourmasters. Also, the Torumaster/Courtech lines are available in Tall sizes if needed. CE armor is included. www.newenough.com has very good prices and excellent reviews and pictures of the products they sell.

The Olympia line is also good stuff and their Hi-Viz colored fabric is VERY hi-Viz! The reasons I didn't go with them is no Tall sizes and their removable liner is one piece, insulated and rain, and I didn't want to use a insulated liner if I was riding in the rain on a warm summer day.

Both are very good quality manufacturers though.

Nice jacket Stan, the tourmaster is a nice one.

I myself am going to go with this one http://www.tourmaster.com/xcart/catalog/Transition-Series-2-Jacket-p-240_3.html in the hi-viz lime color.

I don't want some stupid saying he didn't see me. :D

Elliot,

The Transition is a great jacket a number of guys I ride with wear it. If he was in the NE I would have recommended it, assuming his buddy is also in Arkansas I thought the Intake would be more appropriate and more likely to be worn in hot weather.
