Whats the best AGM Lead-Acid battery?

In short my battery is faulting the charger and I need a new one Stat (before someone breaks into my shed again).

Twilight Error sold me on AGM Lead-Acid batterys in his educational posts in the LiOn thread, but now what?

Can anyone recommend a better battery? I'm willing to pay a little more due to how much I rely my bike as my primary vehicle, and am often a thousand miles from home every ST event, or riding every week through a New England winter.
 
So far I've had good luck with my scorpian. Don't know that you will find a std size bat that tops the yuasa.
 
I got an offer from BikeBandit for a free charger if you order a battery from them today. They only offer two brands, Bikemaster and Yuasa. $84 and $179................. That Yuasa has to be good eh?..........................

Too bad Yuasa wasn't in the above battery review.

So far I think the Yuasa YTX14H-BS is the best Yuasa battery for my ST. But I'm not sure if I have the right part number...

Cool thanks! But the website states its for BikeMaster batteries not Yuasa.

Seems the MotoBatt dominated that review, how can I tell which MotoBatt Battery is the best one for an 1100?

(I wish someone tested which battery resists freezing better) ;-]
 
Mike, I just pulled the cover off my battery. Its a Yuassa......... When I bought the ST 2 years ago, when I went to test ride, it would not start. The seller briefly charged it and got it started. He says, you probably ought to buy a new battery. I did not and the Youassa is still ticking. I have never used a battery tender on it either until I took my last tour which took 6 weeks on a swapped ST. So my ST sat idle for 6 weeks but she was on a battery tender and it started up great when I got back. I have a Kiwi guy coming to use my ST (the swap thing) in July so I was thinking of changing the battery for him but I'm not sure I need to do it? I guess I could testify that the Yuasa is good, question is, is it worth the price > 2 times the others on the market? Gets kinda like the oil thread I suppose.......
 
For the record the battery I am pulling out of the bike has a Honda Wing on it, I suppose its the original 2001 battery?

YTX14-BS Maintenance Free

240 vs 200 cca and weighs half a pound more.

To further confuse the issue it looks like eastpenn (deka brand) now makes them for the ST's.
I have and old email from them saying they don't. Haven't tried one but I'm a fan of East Penn.
ytx14-bs or etx14 for the st1100
ytz14s for the st1300

There are two available that will fit, but they are two different lines of Yuasa (yes always be careful when thinking that just because it's Yuasa it has better specs). The better one is an 'H' designation, which is high performance and 240 cranking amps. The non-H (YTX-14-BS) is 200 CCA. Two Brothers sells the latter for $82.
BatteryStuff.com sells both designations in the Yuasa Motocross brand 240 and 200 CCA. The Scorpion they list is 200 CCA. My temptation would be the Motocross YTX-14H-BS for $89.
 
Looks like it's too tall for the st1300.

The yuasa ytz14s for the 13's are 5.93long 3.46wide 4.37high. positive on the left.
 
The link lists 210 cca. the photo of the battery shows 270cca?
Although it would be equivalant not equall to a AGM value.
Post up how it performs when the temperature hits single digits.
If it works ok then this might be a great alternative to the agm.
 
When cold they say to turn on the key for a few before starting. Started it down to 26 and it was fine doing that. Don't plan on going any lower than that.
