I have let my ST1100 sit for too long and now needs carb work. I live in SW Minnesota and would like to take it to someone I can trust. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Mike

What are the symptoms?
If it won't run unless the choke (fuel enricher) is on, you have idle jets clogged up.
That's a matter of pulling the carbs, removing the bowls so you can clean the jets.
FWIW, Honda shops usually will not touch a ST1100 because of the age.
If you are not mechanically inclined, you may have to reach out to an independent shop that does carbs.
Somewhere I remember that there was a person that offered carb rebuilds as a service on this site but I do not have the link.

Thanks for the thoughts!
Last time I started it 5 years (?) ago it ran on I'm thinking 2 cylinders. It's been sitting in the garage since. Need to bleed the brakes...
I just cleaned the idle jet on my 2004(?) VTX which I've been riding and it ran with only the choke (enrichener?) on, but that was only one carburetor and I don't have the tools to balance the carbs, although I did read an interesting piece by a guy who set up a balancing apparatus with beer cans!
If it's just a matter of taking off the bowls and cleaning jets, I might be able to do it. I agree with that a Honda shop wouldn't touch it, I doubt very much if the techs would even look at it that's why I asked if anyone knew someone close who would be interested. I've done a lot of carb work on cars, but motorcycles not so much.

You do not have to or want to take the carbs apart.
You can get to the jets by just removing the bowls.
I use a Flowmeter to sync mine which is not as precise as the other ways but it is close enough for me.

Try asking your local dealer this same thing. There's a decent chance they're your best source of "yeah, there's a guy who does that..." My local independent moto-mechanic guy gets ~half his business from dealer-referrals on bikes too old for them to take on.

You can also try eBay / googling for "st1100 carb rebuild service". There are you-pull-and-send rebuild services (first thing that turned up for me on eBay with that) if it comes to that, e.g. just basic jet-cleaning won't cut it / you can't manage it. Not cheap.

There was another thread on this topic not too long ago. A few names were thrown around, one In florida can't recall the other. I have a set of carbs on a shelf to have checked/redone, just haven't pulled that trigger yet.

The guy below always received very good reviews for anything related to Honda V4 carburetors. He has been used and recommended by members of this site in the past. You can buy Honda V4 carb. kits from him or send him your carburetors and have him do the rebuild for you. His website no longer works but he is on Facebook. I don't know if he is still in business, you will have to check.

The below contact information is from an old post on this forum so I don't know if it is still valid. The facebook link is more recent. Worse comes to worse I am sure that he isn't to hard to find with a search.

Okay, that's the one I was thinking about - I was confused and my memory has been corrected! ;)

If you are willing to ship them, Murray's Carbs is another person rebuilding Carbs. Iirc he is in North Carolina. The carbs are no more complicated than any other bike so long as you don't separate them. Compared to a Holley or Rochester they are simple. All the best G

Thanks everyone, if I had to pull the carbs myself I might as well do them myself. I'm going to try Uncle Phil's advice. I found a really good carb removal and rebuild on the ST Archive of Wisdom. I think it originally came from STOC. But won't pull the carbs as Phil advised.

I found (at least for me) the 'pulling' job a lot easier if I removed the fuel tank.
With it out of the way, getting to them is a lot less 'painful'.
Not necessary, but easier for me because I have big hands.

Pulling the tank is easy, watch the wire on the left side of the tank. Good idea to clean the inside of the tank if it has been parked for a while. G

Hello all,
Not been on the site in a long while!
Got married and open new business so I have not been riding alot for the last 14 years!
I have a 99 ST with about 70,000 miles on it. I have sold all my bikes but this one. She is a keeper till I die!

Having the same problem with my ST.
Mine only sputters around 2000 rpm when at cruse, was told by a Honda rep that I need a carb rebuild and cleaning.
Sad thing is I don't trust the dealership as they mostly work on side by sides and 4 wheelers, (mostly fuel injection) they don't even
have any bikes on the floor anymore!
There were a couple of sites on Ebay that would clean and re-sync (Plug and Play).
I was considering removing mine and sending it in to one them.

The guy in Canton TX is close to me, Please advise if any have used him here or anyone else on this site.
Thanks
S Lee
