I use Diesel oil (usually Rotella synthetic) and avoid all the auto oils. They now all have things in them that are 'energy conserving" and can cause clutch issues, but it really depends on how one uses the clutch. Diesel and Motorcycle oils (and for HarDly riders, Air Cooled aircraft oils that tend to come only in straight 50wt and 70wt) have packages that aim to control particulate matter, clutch in bikes, soot in diesels.
All oils today are scads better than the old days for wear other than the clutch, and any oil is better than none (~_^)
Also a bit more on Fram, The other reason not to use them is they are vastly over priced. Like I said above, paint one a different color and it is a very cheap filter indeed. You can get two of a better built filter for the price. Sorta like buying a Lifan at HarDly prices because it has a H-D label on it. I will admit I have not cut apart a Fram Bike filter to see if it is any different than their car and truck filters. The Shadow had one on it and I think the Black had one when I got it. But if I was doing a change and all that would fit was a Fram, I'd reuse the old filter and wait until I could get something else (and that is unlikely to happen as there are several fitments to our bikes, 2 bike listings and 2 possibly 3 car) unless I had messed up the old somehow or something.
