I am about to purchase the Autocom Super Pro from Kahuna Cycle's (great price) and want to power a Kenwood radio directly from the Super Pro. I do not want to spend the $$ on the Kenwood through Autocom and Autocom is not being helpful as to what other choices are out there because they want me to buy their $300 model.

What are other folks using for Kenwood radios that can be powered directly from the Autocom? What connection cables are you using?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the links.

Do you know if that cable will allow me to power the Kenwood from the Autocom? The description on the Autocom led me to believe it would not allow me to power the Kenwood from the Autocom, but I may be wrong.

Drawing power from the Autocom to power the Kenwood is one of my primary objectives.

Thanks again.

I use the Kenwood Freetalk XL, TK-3101, you can find them on e-bay for a good price. If you want to get one I got one I will sell you for under well under $200,PM me if your intrested.

I've found that the Kenwood UBZ series FRS radio will run for over a week of daily 10hrs+ on 3 AA batteries. That's good enough in my book not to bother with bike power. Running on batteries also avoids noise and ground loop issues.

I'm powering off the battery and and so is the the Autocom, there are wires off the Autocom spliced into my running lights so when I turn the key on a relay in the Autocom will power up the Kenwood and Autocom unit.

Autocom confirmed that the Kenwood 3200L is what they set up as the Freetalk AT2.

Both the Kenwood 3200L available from non-Autocom sources and the Freetalk AT2 available from Autocom can be powered from the Autocom Super Pro via the Autocom lead part number 1402.

Ashalina,
Autocomm will only push you the kenwood. You can use about any GMRS.FRS radio with your autocomm. I use a nice Cobra which outputs 4 watts on HIGH. The AA batteries will last you a good while, like it was stated above.

Hey Ashalina,
If you haven't purchased your Autocom yet, check out the thread "Autocom Pricing"

This is what Autocom's importer sent me:

Richard,

Kenwood has replaced the 3201 in America with the 3202L. We have it set up as the Kenwood Freetalk AT2. It can be powered by the 1402 powered interface lead from the Super Pro.

He may have made a mistake, but we corresponded a few times and he seemed to know what he was talking about. I did not see an AT2 listed in the current Autocom America offerings, but do not see the AT4.

I do not have the units in hand yet but I am pretty confident the Autocom guy did not steer me wrong and that the 3202L will indeed work with power from the Autocom Super Pro with the 1402 connector. I will know for certain in a few weeks when I get everything but I have no reason to doubt I the information I got directly from the importer of Autocom.

Thankfully we got this straightened out. The Autocom rep did make a mistake. Here is his response:
Richard,

In going through our emails I realized that I gave you the wrong Model number on the Kenwood radio. The AT2 is the correct Radio however the model number is 3200L not 3202L.

I apologize for any inconvenience.

I will make the change to the original post on the model # so folks do not get steered wrong.
