Has any one had history with WIDDER heated vests? Do vests keep you warm as opposed to jackets ( do heated sleeves make a big difference ?). Saw a site where Widder vests with controler was $90.00.
 
You're in Canada... I'm in TX.. I would stick with a jacket liner as the arms do make a difference... coming from someone in the deep south..
 
I like my jacket liner. Warmth on arms makes a huge difference. Just bought a lithium battery so my wife can use her jacket liner while she walks the dogs. Oh yeah.
 
I've got the Widder with the arm chaps and a Gerbing jacket liner. You will want either the chaps or Gerbing jacket liner. You do not want the Widder if it has the old style 'screws' connectors. Having both, I always go for the Gerbing. I'm sure you know that Widder is also out of business - IIRC he retired and shut it down.
 
ST allows a lot more cold wind to the arms then to the chest. 28 degree coat sleeves will like ... 28 degrees. I vote ARMS!
 
Many years ago I started with a Widder vest. I then bought a Gerbring jacket liner. I wouldn't switch back I gave my Widder vest to a riding buddy.

That is funny. I also got the FirstGear gloves and jacket liner right before Christmas. I completely agree that their is some guilt, it is almost like cheating!
 
Didn't know Widder was out of business. Good to know. Will get full jacket. Sure will cut down on bulk, & packing the bike for trips. Don't tell the wife--it would be more room for make-up. Looks to me like more room for stuff from Duty Free.
 
Just a postscript to this discussion: Widder has indeed gone out of business (you can see their 'Goodbye' website here: www.widder.com), but some spare parts - mostly connectors and stuff like that - are sold by the Iron Butt Association, their website is here: IBA e-Store
 
Then there was Eclipse - another good heated clothing company. Still using my Eclipse heated vest that I bought in 1983.

Old thread but +1. You'll appreciate the heated sleeves as well as a heated collar.
Many find a dual controller is helpful as the gloves are usually cranked higher than the liner.
 
I agree with the general sentiment, I have a Gerbings heated jacket liner, G3 heated gloves and heated socks all controlled with the dual zone controller and I can ride comfortably in any temperature down to the teens.

anyone had any luck ordering from the IBA? I keep getting a server error when trying to set up a new account as i'm not actually an IBA member.
 
I ordered a cable (small replacement part) from the IBA about 8 weeks ago, and it arrived promptly. I'm not an IBA member and have not done any business with them before.

thank you for the reply, I ended up buiding my own cable which is pulling double duty for both my electric vest and battery tender, depending on which fuse i use. I may still place an order for a spare, and your stock looks much nicer than my diy job...
