Wind noise

Complicating things is that helmets are tested in a wind tunnel with just clean air hitting them.
Correct...

Just had to "service" my Neotec II to fix a noise issue...
On motor-ways (>140kph/85mph) and face-shield closed, the slider of the top-vent started to vibrate...
Even with earplugs that "....dr-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r..." got pretty annoying on longer stretches... 🙄
Standing up, exposing the lid to full front air-flow and the noise instantly calmed...
Anyhoo... downloaded the manual and unclipped the vent-slider as shown there, added a custom foam strip & some silicone grease to fix it...

Good to know, Martin.
My Neotec 2 may be getting long in the tooth (like others of us here), but so far it's been a sturdy lid, and hasn't been dropped, so I'm going to hang onto it.
Damn things are expensive!
But it's really comfortable.
I wear sunglasses with the face shield up in warm weather, and rarely use the built-in sun shade. I hear they scratch easily.

Like the Neotec before it, I use the sun shade in my Neotec 2 every day the sun is bright. I don't own prescription sunglasses anymore. I like to ride with the face shield open and the shade down in the right conditions. Both of them are not scratched after years use and long miles. I only touch them with my wetted fingers then buff with microfiber cloths reserved solely for this use and use eyeglass spray cleaner. I am in the market for a Neotec 3 but quoted at just under $900 I'm waiting a while longer.

I used to be a Shoei Neotec owner. The weight began to be too much on long days, so I went looking for a lighter "Neotec". I went to the HJC RPHA 91 Carbon. The feel inside isn't quite as plush as my old Neotec, but it is very comfortable for all day use. Ventilation is extremely good. The noise level or quietness is also good; some say it is one of the quietest modular helmets on the market.

The RPHA series is HJC's premium line. For instance, one of the features is a movable chin guard. When the helmet chin guard is up, it moves out of the way to make it easier to put on and take off. When the chin guard is brought down and locked in place, that moveable chin guard moves up to seal off wind and noise coming up from the lower portion of the helmet. I wondered if it would last, and it has. I have 31,000 miles on this helmet and it is like new.

The independent mechanic I take my bike to mentioned that almost every ST owner he has dealt with talks about how quiet things are with the windshield up. I tend to ride with it down but I put it up for the ride to Calgary and back last May (in part due to rain) and it certainly dropped the wind noise significantly.
