2025 WoodSToc 3 - Aug 14-17, 2025 - Kingsclear, NB

Thanks to @catcher @DannoVT & @steve3b3 for making WoodSToc3 one for the history books. Nice to meet some new folks and put faces to the names.

The weather co-operated, even if the fire ban and woodland closures made us rethink a few things. Hope everyone got to see a mix from how drumsticks are made, to farmland, to lakes, rivers, ocean (Bay of Fundy,) 2 ferry rides, 3 covered bridges, lighthouses, an amazing river sunset and more. Good roads, decent grub, great people. Glad to see some of you also didn't spend long in the jail cell at the courthouse. (Shhhh, what happens at WoodSToc, stays in WoodSToc right?)

Mind you, the opening day was all Goldwings, until Kenny showed up with his Ducati, and @catcher swapped out his Wing for the VFR1200x. Sadly, not an ST was in sight this year. There's next year's challenge: have some ST's at a SToc.

Ah yes, nothing like making motorcycle memories! We'll do it again in 2026, especially now that Obo is a fully certified ride leader! Excellent local knowledge, btw.
Tentative date : August 13 - 16. Anyone have any date conflict, before I start a new thread?

That's a Friday to Monday....

Yes, a good time was had!

The roads were decent enough, and the stops we're interesting.
@catcher chose the campground, and the cabins were new and pristine.
I brought a sleeping bag and camp chair that, thinking of other cabins I'd seen, but there was no need for either.
They even supplied K-cups for the Kureg . ..

We had heard about the Canadian forest fires as a nuisance to us, but riding through some of the smoke, and then seeing the smoke from Nova Scotia across the Bay of Fundy. Made it real.
One photo un-taken was of boats lying on their keel, during low tide

Speaking of real, seeing @Obo in 3-D was a treat. He's just as interesting and witty in person as online. He's a fountain of knowledge of all things New Brunswick, to the point that the park ranger offered him an official shirt.

That little boy at Wal-Mart who patted each fender as he passed was cute, as well. He was surprised to be offered to sit on the bike , and rev the throttle. Dad took a photo for posterity.

My ride home took a little longer, due to weekend traffic below Kennybunk, to the Massachusetts border. until then , I had the cruise control set to 80, from the border.

The only issue at the border was hearing the border patrol agent through my earplugs. I don't think the stop took more than 2 minutes.

It's been a few years since I've attended a STOC event, and I'll try to attend the next one.

For reference, the difference from low and high tide in the Bay of Fundy is up to 16m / 52 feet. Most oceans are only 3.5m / 11 feet. I think I told the folks at WoodStoc 20-some feet, so guess I'm not all that knowledgeable. :)
The Bay of Fundy is amazing!
Biggest tides in the world. I've seen whales and dolphins from the ferry from Digby. And white water rafters running the tidal bore right through Moncton. I could go on ...
I could spend days exploring it... & have.

For future gatherings, here's my 2 cents that you didn’t ask for ... ;)

Explore the roads on both the NB & NS shores of the bay.

On the NS side the Annapolis Valley is a great place for motorcycle roads, food & scenery.

Unsolicited feedback and ideas are always encouraged and welcomed! I'm now at least 2 cents wealthier.
Very doable, but requires moving the venue where we stay, or doing a rolling SToc. That's a lot of kilometres of beautiful travel there on the NB & NS Bay coastline. As it was, the Saturday route we took from the resort to the coast was around 437km / 272 miles. As I said before, there's so much to see here, and a variety - but doing it in a day's ride with stops to experience it & rest your bones, can be a challenge.

Yup, hence my suggestion of moving it around.

Its why us crazy ontario people change sides of the province every year or 2. Wish we didn't have to, but good roads and interesting scenery here are limited.

Just one guys thoughts ... carry on regardless. People appreciate your efforts.

Jeff, talk to some of your acquaintances at the "coming up soon" OnSToc event, and arrange for a few lads to split cost of a rental passenger van pulling an enclosed trailer next year. That way, a group of six, eight, or more can come to the Maritimes to attend WoodSToc in August 2026. With shared driving, the trip can be done in a day. I can arrange for the use of a four bedroom house at no charge, for the first night, in Woodstock, NB.

I had a great time at my first Woodstoc in beautiful New Brunswick, CA!

@Obo and @steve3b3 have already posted very good overviews and pictures of the event but I can also attest to how picturesque the St. John River valley and the Bay of Fundy are. Stunning!

On the trip there, a 300 mile trip took the unavoidable I-95 to Exit 211 at Lincoln, ME. From there State rt. 6 was a great reprieve from the slab as it winds through the hills and forests of eastern Maine and to the "one-horse" border crossing into St. Croix NB, where it was a breeze going through (no one in front or behind me).

Friday was an event-filled tour of the St. John River roads and bridges, where we saw the world's biggest axe, the world's longest covered bridge (1282 feet long!) and a meticulously restored 1833 County Courthouse!

Day 2 had Obo leading us down and across the lower St. John River to the very active town of St. Martins on the Bay of Fundy, where the double covered bridge and the sea caves are. It was somewhere near low tide, so people were strolling the beaches while they had their (twice a day) chance.

From there it is a short jog along the coast to the beginning of the Fundy Trail Pkwy., where the real fun begins. Many of the overlooks were closed to protect wildfires from being started but the stops we made overlooking the Bay of Fundy were impressive, to say the least! Seeing the huge plume of smoke rising over the distant Nova Scotia really drove home the magnitude of the wildfires that are burning there.

The roads and views reminded me a lot of the Cabot Trail ,which is a great thing.

The return trip to the River Run cabins was very nice and brought us back to the north shore of the St. John, where a flotilla of pleasure boats brought the smell of barbecuing to replace the faint wood smoke.

Dinner that night was at a great outdoor restaurant overlooking the river...a perfect ending to a great trip.

Many thanks to the host @catcher, day 2 ride leader @Obo, and newly-met @steve3b3 for a great weekend of riding, discovering, and enjoying the many sights of maritime Canada!

And the latest: yesterday, I not only retrieved my van from my daughter's house, but also drove over to the home (and garage) of my old friend Brent, (some may remember him from WoodSToc2 last year) where we loaded the Tenere into the van for it's return to my stable. Before driving home, I stopped in at River Run to have a chat with Dena. Told her we'd be back in August '26! Her computer system won't take deposits 'til December, but I did give her dates on paper, and verbally reserved the two bedroom cabin.
Watch for the new thread!
